How much perfomance gain from an Audigy 2 vs Soundstorm

As you can see in my sig, I'm using the onboard sound of myA7N8X-E. However, I've got a bit of money to burn and am wondering whether to buy that Audigy 2 I've been eyeing up for a while.

I know there's less of a CPU hit using a dedicated APU such as Soundstorm, but I'm wondering if I'd see more of an improvement (i.e. in games) using the Audigy 2.

    What do you think?

I would say dont do it, spent the money on something else. You wont really notice a difference unless your speakers are very high quality, as the soundstorm is a quality piece of kit.

I wouldn't bother - but now you've allocated the money, buy something else instead!

Having just moved from the Soundstorm to an Audigy due to changing mobo, I'd say the difference is noticeable in terms of the positional audio in games.

    Sony RDR GX300 DVD recorder
    512MB or 1GB stick of PC3200

    ...so not much then

    Thanks for the link luap

some how i find that hard to beleive, more of a case that you percived it because you spent money on it and don't want to admit to yourself that you wasted it.

what the conclusion then...is it worth the extra? ive got a nice amp and stereo speaker setup that cost me about £600 which i would call fairly high end (excluding fanatics ) is there a difference to be seen (read: heard) using the audigy?

well, i dont know about the nforce2, but when i upgraded my audigy v1 to the audigy v2ZS, i got much better audio [im using the logitech 5300 speakers] and the ability to render EAX in hardware means theres no slowdown when its enabled... i think the card was worth every single penny [for me, at least]

soundstorm is the only audio solution out that that does dobly digital encoding/decoding in hardware.

It uses less system resources then any creative labs card i have seen and to me it better.

If you have ss on your mobo then do not bother changeing theres no piont. Spend the money else where improving the rig.

That's nonsense. If you read my post you'll see I upgraded my mobo. No option on keeping the soundstorm - the NF7-S doesn't work with winnies.

I personally think that the money would be better spent on something else, such as more RAM.

LOL. You don't get much XLL PC3200 for £30, which is what my OEM Audigy 2 cost.

SS Dolby Digital feeds are only effective when there'a DD decoder recieving the signal. Chances are the original poster here had an analog system.

I can testify myself that there's a big difference in DACs between the SS and the Audigy, as I've had the chance to plug both systems into my sound system.

Whoever said that he was going to buy XLL PC3200? Just having 1GB of normal RAM should give a decent performance boost to 512MB.
