Whats the best mobo for a 939 skt 3000+ winchester?

    Hey guys

Im new to this forums but been using other sites for ages, glad to become part of another great community. My questions are basically about a motherboard for a 3000+ AMD64 Winchester. Im hoping to buy the lot eithr tonight or tomorrow, but the original board I wanted was an Abit AV8 3rd eye and some people have put me off it due to problems with the Winchester CPUs. Just basically asking what you guys here think, on what to do etc?

    Cheers

    Chris

To be honest mate I think Sli is the way to go really, has full dual channel memory support, ability to get one Sli compatible card now and then add another later and has great support from Asus, so really the AN8-SLi from that point, tis a touch expensive in MB terms but I think it's worth it

well, call me old hat but I ordered a Neo2 cause its reasonably cheap, uses agp which I know works and will last for quite a while...maybe in 3years or so I'll get the current then but for now, its neo2 and a 3000+ winny

the best way to go is Nforce4, but if you have an AGP GPU then that is no good (its pci-e). Please tell so we can go on further, are you building a new system or what?

I have the Abit Av8 3rd Eye with a Winchester 3000+ & stock cooler. They've been faultless. I use OCZ Premier 3200 ram, oh, and a mouse that's on the blink MX1000 on the way...

I bought this CPU/Motherboard combo as it fit my budget over Christmas. I couldn't wait for the prices and availability of Sli boards to drop to affordable levels (for my budget) and I generally buy a generation or two behind anyway. I also didn't want the expense of a new video card just yet.

I've run it at stock speeds, overclocked it in the BIOS as well as used the OcGURU to overclock within XP.

I was a fan of Nforce after buying an NF3 with socket 754 A64 for my parents so I was also considering the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum although that was a touch more money.

Anyway the main thing is that I'm on the 939 platform!

I read on a few other boards today that SLi is not all it's cracked up to be. Firstly, only certain games will run in SLi mode, i.e. only if the drivers for the card have a profile for those games.

All other applications and games will run in normal mode using only one card. Obviously as newer drivers are released, more games and applications will be catered for. But for now there are only a handful of games that will actually make use of two video in an SLi system. That's how I understood the following article:

    SLI article

It's put me off SLi a bit. Hope it's not as bad as it sounds.

Yeah ive just bought an MSI Neo2 Platinum.. decided to steer clear of the AV8 as much as i actually wanted it, as i cant afford to have my PC on the blink.

I have AGp gfx and was wanting to upgrade for less than £180 which i have managed to do!!

    Cheers for the help guys
