SLI on the cheap

What are the benifits of dual-video cards? 4 monitors? :confused:

its more powerfull for gaming, its overkill as i see it though. but i still want it lol

It is complete overkill for todays games, but introducing a 2nd graphics card could be a very cheap upgrade in 18 months time for those who can't afford to rebuild every quarter.
HOWEVER, something has been bothering me about SLI since I heard about it.
Anyone remember the 3DFX Voodoo SLi? Same SLI acronym, but different implementation of sharing the graphics workload across 2 cards. I remember that I had a single 12Mb card, but by the time I wanted to add a second idnentical card for SLi, the version was no longer available and so my SLi dream was scuppered (pre ebay days).
I'm just wondering which of todays 6800 cards will still be available in 12-18 months time? And will 2 name-same cards be SLI capable if the later bought card is a revised version? One way to find out is to potentially waste a lot of money!
BTW Dispite all my misgivings I'm going for an MSI Diamond SLI, just as soon as I see some good write ups from self builders, oh and that I can actually find some in stock!

I read that this morning, it's very interesting but I don't expect to see people being able to do that in 3-5 months :(
Nvidia makes good video cards with solid hardware, no doubt, but they could learn a thing or two from ATI about software (well drivers). I have faith in SLi still, but more and more little things are starting to shaken my faith.
