    Which Setup?

Ok have a limited budget and am wondering which will be the best set up for video + audio encoding, running miscrosoft office, internetting etc. No gaming.

    Recycled components for either system:
    OCZ 600W PSU
ASUS V8420 Graphics (not the best I know, by the way is the 8x downward compatible as the card goes up to 4x)

    Pentium 4 System

    Asus P4C800E- Deluxe
    P4 Pentium 3.2 GHz 1 MB L2
Maxtor 10 Diamond 250 GB HDD or Western Digital 200 GB HDD
OCZ Platinium rev 2 2x512 MB or Mushkin Level2-2-2 Rev.2 Dual 2x512MB or PUI Turbo 2-2-2 (Black) 2x 512 MB

    AMD System

    MSI K8N Neo2 or Asus A8V
    Winchester 3200+
Maxtor 10 Diamond 250 GB HDD or Western Digital 200 GB HDD
OCZ Platinium rev 2 2x512 MB or Mushkin Level2-2-2 Rev.2 Dual 2x512MB or PUI Turbo 2-2-2 (Black) 2x 512 MB

    Which would you recommend

Along with the gizzilion other posts to this effect on the forums option 2 (AMD) with the PQI Ultra Turbo memory.

No point going that P4 cos s478 is now obselete

Thanks that is what I figured, my only hesitation was on TomsHardware Forum the cpus head to head put the P4 much higher than the 32. Winchester for video encodign which is what i mainly do. But my thoughts were more towards the Winchester.

Can you think of a better setup for option2 than I have suggested?

socket 478 might be obsolete but it still works well and with the 775 out it is now a cost effective way to get a half decent pc

If you are doing video encoding then a P4 is your best bet. AMD are best for gaming, which you won't be doing. Intel is better (slightly) at audio encoding, but far better at video encoding.

Buy into an upgradable platform if you wish, but get a P4 or you may be dissapointed in performance.

OK then it is intel then as in the main I do video editing. Unfortunately I cannot afforf the 775 systems unless you can find one the same or less than the pentium set up I suggested - I'll have to buy a new graphics card as well, and DDR2 is more expensive (with low latency timings too).

So it is back to the P4 3.2 GHz 1MB L2
now which of the boards currently still available.
I had been thinking of the Gigabyte 8KNXP or Abit IC7 Max 3 but these are no longer available so which of the following:

Asus P4C800E Deluxe Springdale (heard these have some voltage problems)
    Asus P4P800E Deluxe 865PE
    MSI 865PE NEO2-PFS PLATINUM
    Abit IC7G DUAL DDR

Some reasons why would be useful. Here is a poll
