Gaming PC - To sell or not to sell

Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice here, basically I have a gaming pc from quite a while back but don’t game anymore, so I’m thinking of selling it and downgrading to something alot more simpler, here’s the build:

Corsair Air 540 Case
Asus P8P67 Pro (Standard ATX size)
i5 2500k Overclocked to 4.5Ghz (With hyper 212+ Cooler with fans either side)
Gigabyte 7970
Corsair RM850 Power Supply

The case itself has five fans on it, there’s three hard drives in there with an SSD but I’ll probably sell it with a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD in there and keep the rest, there’s other bits and bobs like led lights and a Xonar DG soundcard, I’m wondering roughly how much I’d get for a build like this these days, or whether it’s worth selling it all separately? Or whether it’s worth selling at all actually, would appreciate any help, thanks.

RM850 around £60
Case around £90-100 assuming very good condition
No mention of RAM, but assuming 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz which would have been typical for a system around that time about £30

Sold together as a system I would've thought about £400, closer to £500 sold seperately

It's still a very capable gaming rig if you upgraded the graphics card to something like the RX480 / GTX1060 / GTX1070

Shame you didn't have it for sale on here a couple of weeks ago, I would have been interested in buying (too late now though!)

If you were willing to split I'd probably be interested in the mobo and CPU - assuming you still have the mobo box and anti-static bag to ship them in?

Note - any selling on Hexus would need to be done in the classified threads so if you do decide to part with it (and it is still a very capable system) then you will need to do so there.

I think cptwhite's estimates are a bit high for a few of the items given how old they are now, but others will be able to advise better than me.

Depends if you're looking for some quick cash or to squeeze the most out of it. If you just don't use it any more and want to sell up, try and flog it as one. Otherwise, try and find buyers for each part - but the risk with selling bits separately is people might not be interested in certain parts (e.g. an old graphics card).

It would indeed, and the Classifieds subforum is only available to active forum members with a minimum of 100 constructive posts, so the OP would have to up their posting rate considerably to start using it

That said, we'd love to have another active hexus regular join us in For Sale if you've got the time to contribute a bit more round the forums, Online

@ik9000 i don't have the box anymore, of course when i first built this thing back in 2011 i never (ever!) thought i'd be selling it one day, i did keep the boxes etc for a while but five years is a long time so no idea where it all is now.

@scaryjim i'd love to lol, but time is scarce for me these days unfortunately, i might try something like gumtree and if that fails then ebay perhaps, i shall see, on the one hand i have thought about putting it in a smaller case and just keeping it, but then if i don't need this much power then i'm just wasting potential money which i could utilize on other things, thanks for your advice people, much appreciated.

Over 100 constructive posts - moderators don't vet every single comment on Hexus, but we're pretty attentive and will tend to notice if someone is developing a pattern of posting more one line replies than might be considered "normal" - after all, some threads do merit a short reply, but if a whole series of threads from several months ago suddenly get dredged up by the same user...

Basically, treat the forum with respect and get involved, and you'll hit 100 constructive posts before you know it

Cptwhite was about spot on with the price except the case, but that is totally down to taste and luck of the draw. As said above, these are opinions and YMMV.

I'd suggest gumtree before Ebay. Normally means less hassle with it being a local pickup site (or that's how it should be used, IMO) and there is no fee. I imagine your board and CPU would sell swiftly (board specifically as socket 1155 boards are thin on the ground. I'm sitting on a basic socket 1155 board with a low power i3 in it at the moment and humming and harring about whether to sell or to build a system around it.)

How easy is it to sell used system?(here or ebay or craiglist) i have fractal design define R5, 2500K, Z68,antec trupower 650watt (i think), 8gig ram. MSI 970. i was under the impression its junk and no one want so i just think of selling the CPU/GPU to cex and use the PSU for new build and dump everything else
