    System

    Hi all,

My sister has asked me to build or find a pre-built system for her.

Her budget is up to £1000 and will mainly be used for gaming.

She found this on SCAN which she likes the look of - https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configura...uk-3xsgamer16i

I've tried specking something of a similar spec up but I am struggling to beat the price, especially as I want to try and get an SSD in there as opposed to a HDD.

If anyone can point to similar / better spec'ed rig that would be awesome

    Thanks

    Re: System

If the budget is £1000 and that rig is £899, can you not just add on an SSD? It would still be under budget...

Other than that, seems a decent rig, and upgradeable as well...

I could, was just wondering if anyone could come up with something similar spec'ed or better for less

I think you might be hard pressed to find a better pre-build for the price...

Take out the HDD, add in a 500GB 750 Evo, price goes up to ~ £990, which is still in budget. There's several options for 256GB SSDs, including M.2, at under £100 too, so you could even keep the HDD and add an SSD and still get it prebuilt by Scan...

If instead you now want to aim for a £900 budget instead, try these:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/750921-pc-spec...pc-pcs-d973320 FX-6300/8GB DDR3, GTX 1070, 240GB SSD plus 1TB HDD, £869.98
    http://www.ebuyer.com/754229-stormfo...g-pc-7260-5300 i5 6400/8GB DDR4, GTX 1060 6GB, 128GB SSD plus 2TB HDD, £799.98

Frankly I'm not sure why I posted the second link, since you're not going to beat the GTX 1070 in games even if it's coupled with an FX 6300. Budget for an aftermarket heat sink (anything up to £30 keeps you below the £900 barrier) and you should be able to clock the CPU up a bit, too. You're not going to find a faster pre-built gaming machine...

EDIT: if you want an Intel CPU and a GTX 1070 in budget, you could always go for this:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/750922-pc-spec...pc-pcs-d973322

i5 6500/8GB DDR4, GTX 1070, 128GB SSD plus 2TB HDD, £949.98. Will it give you £80-worth of performance above the AMD version? *shrug* I doubt it, but it's probably marginal at this end of the market...
