Smooth scrolling mouse wheel

I picked up a Logitech G502 (Proteus Spectrum) at the weekend as Maplins had one out and were price matching everywhere (although they were cheapest anyway...!?)

Anyway, the mouse is wonderful but something I thought I wouldn't like but really do is the "non friction" mouse wheel. You can press a button and instead of having (rather loud) clicky scrolls, the wheel just spins freely on a smooth bearing. It's incredibly satisfying and makes rolling through large documents or spreadsheets a breeze - once you are used to the sensitivity.

I don't change my hardware that much so it's probably nothing new, but I was pleasantly surprised by the feature.

I had an RX series mouse, for a while, it had one of those. Nice for scrolling, but I do like having middle click.

It's definitely a useful feature to be able to switch on and off. Becomes second nature to use it eventually.

My mouse wheel is in limbo, it doesn't click any more due to almost a decade of heavy use and the scrolling input is still of course quantised. It also phantom scrolls which makes the mouse even more annoying, but yet I'm reluctant to replace it - we've been through so much together.

I hope, although I'm quite sure, that my mouse can't read this;

But I do wonder what life would be like, if I moved on and caved in to temptation, and bought a real smooth scrolling mouse.
