    Athlon XP3000+ (Barton) compatibility query

Just wondering if a barton core, in particular a 400Mhz FSB version, will work with an ABIT-KD7 DDR400 mobo. Ive flashed the BIOS to the latest version.

EDIT: I also have an ALPHA PAL 8045 heatsink. Its about 3-4 years old. Its currently cooling a 1700 Thoroughbred tho ive had this upto 1900 speeds. Will it be enough to cool that barton core down?

No- the KD7 has the KT400 chipset which only supports FSBs up to 166MHz, although if your PCI cards/AGP card are happy running at 40/80MHz respectively you should have no trouble OCing the board to run at 200MHz. If the cpu is unlocked you could just reduce the bus speed to 166MHz and then increase the multi to get the speed back up.

An 8045 is still a bit of a badboy, it'll be fine.

So its no according to the specs but yes if you mess around with the FSB/Multiplyer? Going on a 166Mhz FSB its the 333Mhz Bartons which are officialy supported then?
