Plain Keyboards.
I have searched the forums and found a couple of threads about keyboards, but all people ever recommend are ones like the elite and the eluminix or some other crazy keyboard.
Well all i want is a plain keyboard. No f-lock (damn deluxe access crap) no function keys, no volume/scroll/novelty wheel. Just a plain nice keyboard.
I would like one that is black and also has a nice soft feel to it. I dunno what laptop keys are gonna be like but i don't think they will be good for gaming somehow (which is what i would like one for). But i have never tried them and would appreciate your input on them :)
I have looked at the Cherry G83-6105 and it looks pretty much perfect but i cant find any reviews or something about it. I never really buy anything unless it has good reviews.
Any one use one of these cherrys? Anyone think laptop keys are good for gaming? and finally, a bit random but for a keyboard USB and ps2 arent really an issue are they? (for 'hardcore  ' gaming)
Many thanks

oh yeah also, Do you people know of any other keyboards that fit the requirements that i may be interrested in? :)

I personally use a USB keyboard and find no problems and I do a lot of gaming.
Ive heard a lot of good reports of the cherry but have never tried one first hand

when u say usb keyboard i take it uses usb port rather then the keyboatd port or both ?

I use a silver and black HP one, bought new on eBay for about £9. I bought it because I use it in work and it's got a really nice, solid feel to it as well as being pretty minimalist. There is a fairly discrete row of 'easy access' buttons along the top, but they don't intrude and I never use them.

I use microsoft natural keyboards at home & work. SO much more comfortable.
Cherry are ok, we use them prettymuch exclusively at work. Cheap functional & reliable.

how do the cherrys you have at work feel to type on, are they quiet and make a nice noise and are soft to touch or are they like those bbc micro things from the past? :)
-
USB keyboard for me, i game alot also, and have has no probs whatsever

I use a Cherry G83-13500 which is the key board your'e looking at plus the whistles and bells you don't want. i.e media keys plus 2 port usb hub. Got from Scan.
As for the feel I would say it's relatively soft, certainly not clicky or soft as a laptop keyboard, but it also has a solid feel to it. The keys seem to be well damped if you know what I mean. Hard to put into words - I will get the old lady round a get a professional opion. :)
 F-lock keys, it should be called FF-lock for f*^&ing F-lock. Man the number of times I had to turn that f-locking thing on and off when booting up my bro's asrock mobo to get into the bios (which required F2  ) I don't know. Another fabulous idea from M$ over

lol i use a cheap genius one in black http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/kb_06x_black.jpg
It HAS got a power/sleep/wake buttons by the arrow keys:mad: which i used to tap when pressing return sometimes, which turned pc off:mad: so disabled em in properties and now its all good.

link doesnt work :( site must be down or something.
I just checked on cherry's website and they have a new product. the Cymotion Expert which look pretty good and i suppose a few function keys isnt too much harm.
I might consider one of these instead. the seem pretty nifty :)
Just not sure about hte placement of the four keys at the bottom :shocked2:

Dell ones rock! You should try one of them. The keys are nice and hard, I know you said you wanted something soft, but trust me, you'l love the hard stuff :D
-
Use a Cherry G83-13000 here at work, very comfortable in use, and has served me well for a few years now. Not too loud, but not ultra silent either.

i know what you mean about the hard keys, what i mean is like they arent too tough to press or the feel soft to push down. I think that explains it vaguely :inquisiti i dunno, just nice to press :P
I have heard nothing but good things about cherry's new keyboards so it is reather tempting
