    Are RiDisc a good brand?

I bought 50 of these for my LDW-811s DVD-RW, and only 1 out of 16 disks has so far worked without falling flat on it's face. They are certified 8x, and i've burnt them all at 4x.

Do you think I could get a refund?

Oh, and ECC kicks in frequently at the beginning of the disks, including the one that worked, but no where else.

i think they are good - someone correct me if im wrong, but ridisks are made by ritek ? who are known for making quite good disks !

1 / 16 is a REALLY high failure rate, there might be something wrong with your drive? i have a NEC 3500 and ive wrote about 100 disk in my time, and ive only ever had 2 coasters, not from a bad burn, or a bad disk, but nero crashing of all things !

If you're using nero make sure it is the latest version as well

Yea my drive has never been much cop to be honest, but the last disks I used were 50 Memorex 4x DVD-R's, and only 2 of the 50 failed. I have also used 25 unbranded 4x DVD+R recently and just 1 of them failed.

Apparently there have been some issues with the quality of Ritek's 8x generation discs (G05, although you don't say whether they're + or - R). Previous generations have been good.

If they're all failing to burn in a writer that works fine with other similar types of media, I'm inclined to think it's a bad batch. A reputable retailer should offer to replace them IMO.

What mobo you using? I have had similar issues when I used nForce IDE drivers before, switched to standard IDE and everything then worked fine

Yep i'm using nForce SIDE drivers. I've never 'switched' back to standard IDE drivers before, I'm guessing I'll have to reformat?

When you say you've had similar issues, you mean some brands burned just fine and others gave you nothing but bad copies?

I've never been happy with this drive, I think about 60% of all the DVD media I have purchased for it has worked . That said I first had it on an 80 pin cable instead of 40 pin (oops ), when i changed that solved a lot of issues, and i've always used the nforce drivers.

I'm doubting whether it's a bad batch, i've had similar issues with different brands before, but not with a fail rate as high as this.
