Ryzen 5 build advice
I've decided now to go for a ryzen 5 when it comes out instead of an i5 build. I need some advice on which ryzen 5 to go for, mobo, gpu and ram. I've been watching quite a few videos on ryzen 7 benchmark videos and most of them seem to have the Asrock X370 k4 but thats what they were sent to test the ryzen with. Should i go for that board or a different one?
So far I've only got a Nzxt s340 elite case with the nzxt x62 liquid cooler (am4 bracket on order) 2 ssd and 1 normal hdd.
only preference I've got on a motherboard is easy overclocking features and I prefer the ones with the cover over the ports at the back as ill have a glass panel on the case. I know that a lot of these am4 boards need bios updates to run better so ideally I'd like a board that has a current update available.
These are some of the boards I've had a look at,
MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON for £156
ASRock AMD AM4 Ryzen X370 Gaming K4 £155
Gigabyte AORUS AMD Ryzen AM4 AX370 GAMING K5 £150
MSI AMD AM4 Ryzen X370 KRAIT GAMING £151
or should I go for a b350 board and save around £50?
For the gpu should I go for a amd or nvidia card. Couple I've seen on offer are:
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC for £335
MSI Radeon RX 480 Armor OC 8GB for £199
Only thing left now is the ram, ideally looking to spend around £150 on 3200mhz 16gb. thanks

Re: Ryzen 5 build advice
Nothing too useful, but I use a 4*4gb kit similar to this one in my 6700k Intel build and it's worked fine. It's a reasonable speed and cost in my eyes. By getting 2*8gb you leave yourself some upgrade headroom I don't have.

Of course, ryzen and intel are very different, please do some ryzen specific research first.
Also, if a B350 board has the features you need and still overclocks, go for it. Don't worry about the BIOS being up to date out of the box - you will be able to flash it. I'm sure ryzen bios will be updated from all the major manufacturers for some months to come.
The AMD RX 580 graphics card is coming out 'soon' and will be worth more for resale later. I don't know much about the Nvidia cards.

Re: Ryzen 5 build advice
If you want to run faster RAM use two slots and from what I gather some of the GSkill 3000MHZ/3200MHZ kits look reasonably decent.
I will ask around regarding the motherboard.

Re: Ryzen 5 build advice
The ASRock X370 one got a recommendation and I think the Taichi is meant to be OK. Looking at the MSI Tomahawk B350 a few people are using it on OcUK and the Gigabyte AB350M.

yeh the asrock x370 k4 is the board alot of people got sent to test out ryzen 7 on. the taichi is a bit pricey really at £210. ill keep looking at a few reviews on those boards. thanks
