Uses for a 27" spare monitor

I have a 27" 1080p monitor that's lying around gathering dust. I'm looking for suggestions on a good use for it. It has built-in speakers and HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, as well as Vesa mounting options.

I was toying with the idea of connecting some sort of A/V box to it so that I could watch films on it, or even live TV. It doesn't have a remote though, so it's use as a TV is somewhat limited.

Use it as a screen for a MAME/Emu cabinet? That's my next project

Chromecast, stick it on a wall. We don't have an aerial plugged in to our TV in the bedroom, just use it for the odd Netflix episode.

Re: Uses for a 27" spare monitor

You can buy remotes for PCs. Not sure how well they work with third-party applications like netflix.

Mount it as a spare screen on your main PC, multiple monitors are fantastic for productivity.

Use it for your smarthome/security system. That you now have to invest in as you have a spare monitor.

Give it to somebody who needs one.

Re: Uses for a 27" spare monitor

Could always buy a stick PC Android and a gyro mouse or link your smartphones to the stick PC to turn the dumb monitor into a smart device.

EDIT: Chromecast works well too but newer stick PC come with built in support or possibly to install support for near enough the same price.

Dual screen? Go side by side, or over & under?

Re: Uses for a 27" spare monitor

No space for a second monitor. I've got a 34" curved one now that takes up most of my desk width!

I could screw the old 27" one to the wall above my desk so I can kind of use it as a second screen for videos and stuff like that. I'm sure it supports a Vesa mount.

That's what I was getting at with the 'over & under' bit.
