Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
As I'm waiting for my PC components to arrive this week, I was wondering whether my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse will work for a brand new PC build? I'll be building a Windows 10 PC. I could really do with not needing a wired keyboard and mouse!
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
Should do.
Just install the drivers (if there are any specific ones), plug in the dongles and away you go. Probably don't even need drivers, as the Windows ones likely work fine.
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
As Ttaskmaster said, Windows 10 should have/find the correct drivers for them. I've just upgraded to Win 10 and had no problem installing my wireless keyboard and mouse.
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
So assuming a newly-built PC with no OS on it, I plug the keyboard/mouse dongle into a USB port, plug the (bootable) USB stick with Windows 10 ISO on it and power on?
My concern is if the USB sockets are not in the list of bootable devices in the BIOS - I'd then be stuck with a non-functioning keyboard/ mouse that I would need to make the necessary BIOS changes, unless the BIOS can detect and enable the keyboard dongle.

Now, I could be wrong here, but I believe the 'bootable device' thing only applies if you're trying to boot/load windows from a flash drive connected to a USB... and usually just requires enabling it in BIOS, which is so simple even I can manage it!!
Basic connectivity for USB peripherals is on by default, as evidenced by the numerous Win10 installs I have done my own self and even more numerous ones I have watched a fellow system builder do, while sat drinking his tea. In every single instance, we just plugged the dongles in, powered the system on and went straight into BIOS. Mouse and keyboards worked every time.

He's talking about the list of default boot devices, most motherboards allow you to add/remove entries as well as change the order.
Battery powered peripherals are the spawn of the devil so I don't have a wireless keyboard but I'd give it a good chance of working on a modern UEFI, especially if it's USB rather than bluetooth.

Suspected so, but still wanted to allow for the high possibility of me being wrong... IIRC, my Boot Orders are actually a separate option to the main BIOS. F8 rather than F2, or t'other way 'round...
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
Yes, I was talking about the options in the BIOS for the boot media and the boot priority. I'm sure everything will be fine. I think I've got an old wired keyboard in the pile of junk in my shed which I can clean up and use if necessary.
However, I want to try it with the wireless keyboard/mouse first and will post back on here as the results may help other out in the future.
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
All of my wireless devices have worked without the need for Windows drivers - I can boot from a USB installer and my Logitech mouse works fine.
Re: Using wireless keyboard and mouse for new PC build
Happy to confirm that my wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse worked perfectly on my new build, and without any Windows 10 being present.
