    R1700 ?

    Hi All

My tax refund came through, and I'm tempted to a 1700 bundle to replace my 4770k.
I don't suppose you could give me the low down on a recommended mobo ram etc ?

I don't want to spend more than I have to, and almost exclusively play Battlefield at 1440p @144Hz. (I generally look to upgrade around the 4 year mark.)

    Thanks

    Re: R1700 ?

Pick your mobo first and then choose RAM from the QVL list.

I went for the R5 1600, but I already had a 32GB DDR4 kit. I ended up ebaying the kit and buying new due to instability.

Yes - indeed. Compatibility did seem to be a problem. Which is why I was asking the experts. (you )
QVL list ? I assume this is some sort of compatibility table. Do you have a link ?

That would have to be a link for each mobo from each vendor, f. For instance
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350M%20Pro4/#Support
    https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PR.../HelpDesk_QVL/
    https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/supp...ml#support-cpu
    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...10#support-doc

Those are for the first four B350 boards I came across ia Skinflint where each entry generally has a link back to the manufacturer:
    https://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=mbam4&x...3_4x+DDR4+DIMM

    Re: R1700 ?

As above - go to the relevant webpage for the particular board you're buying, click on support or compatibility and it'll give you the QVL lists for tested RAM, CPUs etc..

    Re: R1700 ?

I have helped with a few Ryzen builds myself - I looked at the QVL lists and remember Ryzen prefers the following:
    1.)Single Ranked memory
    2.)Two RAM sticks used
3.)Samsung B die chips followed by Micron and Hynix chips

The latest AGESA update should help once more motherboard companies update the BIOSes of their motherboards in due course - what is your budget for the build and are you overclocking?? I found that Adata was one of the first to have Ryzen certified RAM and it seemed to work OK in a build a mate did recently. Overclockers UK is also listing Geil AMD certified RAM too.

No set budget - just best bang for buck. If I can overclock it I will. However, I know very little about AM4 boards and their features

Unless you are in a rush it might be worth seeing what the new AGESA update does for RAM compatibility and speeds, but I would budget around £100 to £150 for a motherboard, and a similar amount for 16GB of decent DDR4 too.

Some companies are already introducing Beta BIOSes with the update - the AGESA update itself has been released. ATM,I am just seeing what feedback there is on forums.
