What is a Ryzen 1700X, 16gb DDR4 and a quick Radeon like to use daily for work?

I've got one and it's FAST!!!it's so fast..... but how fast and what can it do? It'sa mammoth super uber overkill for an OFFICE PC

    Well yesterday I started experimenting...

Folding@Home is useful and I used to do it.
The GPU rips though units (not parts of a unit...units plural) daily.

So I set up two extra CPU flding sessions and they're spanking away on muti cores too....
In context.. it took me years to gain points in F@H on the HEXUS team

    http://folding.stanford.edu/stats/team/69776
    http://folding.stanford.edu/stats/donor/725847

but in under one day (it goes off at night, it's only on when I worked part of yesterday and all of today) I've thumbed in mega points.

and the CPU has half it's threads empty

I know.. it's not a benchmark... and for the admin process I do it's an overkill rig.. big time. Way better than my own rig for gaming at home!

But it's good to know just HOW fast it is

Blazingly fast in the reply. Ferociously fast!

if your office admin is similar to my office admin, just about any bew PC is overkill. That's why my office PC is so old I struggle to remember the specs. But it's a Q6600 era PC, albeit a notch or two up from that, with 4GB of DDR2.

Another 4GB of DDR2 might add a bit of breathing room, but to be honest, at what I'd cost, it's probably not worth it. Besides, it does everything I want, let alone need, from an office PC, which is accounts, WP, spreadsheets, databases, email, etc. It's even fast enough for a perfectly usable voice dictation system, and I use it for Photoshop, Corel, etc., too.

Yes, with all the hype about fast, mutitgreading go faster stripe fitted processors, it's easy to forget that for everyday office tasks, a pretty mundane low end processor will manage quite happily - with the advantage of low power consumption. Even a basic file server doesn't need much grunt.

It only when you start venturing into photo editing and streaming that you need to ramp it up a bit. Video editing and streaming adds a greater demand and that's when specs become more than academic interest. Video games (effectively video rendering and processing) ramps it up a bit more.

(And thinking about it, a 486dx with about 8Mb of Ram and a 40MB drive running DOS6.1 and WordPerfect 5.1 would still meet 95% of my word processing needs)
