Please help choosing right components for my pc :)

    hi,

i am in serious need of upgrading my pc.

i will use my pc for: video editing via adobe software / macromedia studio products / adobe photoshop / 3ds studio max / some music creation software and a few other multimedia creation based software.

i have no idea on whats the latest and greatest so i ask for your help Hexus forum users

i have a budget of around £1000/1200 but £485 is set aside for a monitor (dell widescreen one) so this leaves 500/700.

i would like a near silent case if possible as machine will run 24/7.

i would need: case / cpu / ram / dvd-rw / hdd / graphics card and other usual things.

i would like the setup to be fast when using the mentioned programs.

    thanks for any help,

silent case: look at the antec sonata http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1210.html

i use one and its got a good quiet psu and 120mm fans

many people would suggest a intel prcessor for media/video editing and encoding, they seem to have the edge in number crunching.

ram wise a good gig would be nice which should set you back another £90-100 from any of the good retailers around.

quiet hard drives try samsung spinpoints or seagates both very quiet and good performers.

DVD-RW i use an NEC 3500A that works fine for me (had to upgrade firmware, but flys now)

i leave the rest to someone that is more knowledgeable the this field of media

What music creation software will you be using? I recommend the Terratec DMX 6fire Soundcard. Great low latency ASIO 2 drivers, And the sound quality is topnotch, I did a A/B against my audigy 2 and i was actually appaled at how bad the audigy sounded in comparison, even on games not just dedicated music software. They can be picked up easily in the <£150 range. and are a steal.

I can't offer anymore advice on much else, But music creation gear is my speciality, so any questions regarding that area let me know.

    hi,

i have now chosen a: case (antec sonata), dvd-rw (nec), hard drive (seagate 200gb), ram (1 gig crucial)

i still don't know what cpu and graphics card to get and also a good motherboard.

i have looked at the Intel Pentium 4 Prescott LGA775 processors 3.0/3.2/3.4 and Socket 939 Athlon 64 Processors 3000 +/3500+ and Socket 754 Athlon 64 Processors.

I am unsure on what would make for a super fast and quiet pc setup for my needs as mentioned before.

I also am unsure on what graphics card to get to drive my work (non gamer).

This also means i have no clue on what motherboard would be suitable.

(i have thought of just going over to a mac setup and get a dual 1.8 or 2.0 but its rather expensive at the moment )

    can anyone help please,

    thanks

Well, for your needs I would probably suggest a 3.4ghz P4 Prescott. I have one myself, and that pc is so quiet I sometimes wonder if it's on in contrast with a couple of my others.

As for graphics card, I don't know, you may need a Quatro for the type of work you're doing, but see what the others say.

Doesn't the Intel Pentium 4 Prescott LGA775 3.4 run hot?

how quiet is it? i would like to use it with the artec sonata silent case.

    what motherboard do you use?

    thanks,
