I've heard from a couple of sources that X399 is still a bit immature. Any problems your end?
I was thinking of threadripper but went Ryzen 8 core myself. Want to keep the costs down and won't use it for anything but crypto, so spent on the GPU...

Threadripper is is bit of a specialist cpu atm there's not many people for who it's good, but it never stopped people buying i7's

Well, my use case is to achieve virtualisation in Linux via KVM/IOMMU, and Fedora 26 makes this super simple.Originally Posted by Millennium

The trick is to pick a 'good' Linux friendly motherboard. L1Techs cover these in detail and so far the MSI X399, Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 (mine) are two of the 'friendliest'.
IOMMU groupings however is a whole different cat, and that's where things many be a bit iffy - like on my Gigabyte board. There's an AGESA update from AMD to allow full-RAID across all M.2s (without a lame lock like Intel's VRock), and I'm wondering if the IOMMU groupings would shift at that point.
Yup - my goal is to virtualise most of it via KVM in Fedora 26. Already got it working, just need to make the time to finish my setup. Doing a pfSense router build at the same time so I'll swing back to this soon.Nice
