Advice on which SAT>IP Server to get.

    Hello,

I am on the lookout for a SAT>IP Server to add to my network, for recording TV via TVHeadend.

Could anyone offer any advice as to which one to get, please?

I have currently been looking at the following:

    https://www.amazon.de/Telestar-Digib.../dp/B008OVPYCQ

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Megasat-SAT.../dp/B01DKP28O2

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Triax-31010...WDA008YS5JWW65

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

    HDHomerun do one perhaps?

Not sure the ones in your post are what you're looking for, no way you could put cards into the server?

Re: Advice on which SAT>IP Server to get.

Quite a while back, I did actually consider whether to go down the DVB-T or DVB-S route (I have both both decided to use one or the other as my setup was getting a bit difficult to manage).

I decided to go with satellite on the basis that there were more channels (especially now Dave is on Freesat) and that the channels are, supposedly, better quality.

As the HDHomeruns only work with DVB-T, I have had to discount them.

As for internal cards, I really need a quad tuner and the only DVB-S2 one on the market is made by TBS and I have been told that they are a nightmare when used with Linux.

I sort of came to the conclusion that a SAT>IP was the best option.

Re: Advice on which SAT>IP Server to get.

I used to use a DVB-S2 card and came to the conclusion the extra channels aren't worth it, now just using HD homerun DVB-T2 device.

I think one of the respective forums for the software you're using is a better bet than Hexus for suggestions like this, as it's quite niche. But my honest advise would be that if you're delving so far down the rabbit hole to find a specific device for a specific function, the rest of the journey is likely to be in the dark.

Re: Advice on which SAT>IP Server to get.

    Thank you.

Just out of interest, do you actually notice much difference in quality, having moved from satellite to terrestrial?

I did spend a lot of time looking at the HDHomeruns as they get some fantastic reviews and seemed just to work.

The one thing that put me off slightly was that they only came with a dual tuner and fast ethernet, rather than gigabit speed *(in Europe, they do a quad tuner version with the faster ethernet but this is only available with DVB-C tuners). Have you ever had any problems with the 100 m/Bit ethernet speed?

I didnt really use it often enough to notice, or care. There will be a difference and DVB-S2 should be better but I dont really expect much from it at all these days.

Yeah pretty much sums it up, it just works.

No. Even a quad channel decoder with typical modern compression would struggle to saturate 100Mbps, I presume they have only used a Gbit interface "just in case"
