    Winchester 3000 or 3200 for OC'ing?

Got the choice of an AMD 64 3000 or 3200 for over clocking with an Abit AV8 3rd Eye, which ones gonna be better, the 3000 due to the lower multiplier or does that not matter like it used too?

The 3200+ is better but costs more

    High multi = teh win.

Theres only 200mhz difference which is easily overclocked

I agree.. the extra 1x multiplier will give you a higher overall clock rate, thus greater number crunching.. and it shouldn't make much of a difference, ram and that VIA stuff may be a slightly more limiting factor... VIA is being a bit pooey these days.. so keep an eye on that.

I've got to say that my KV8 Pro is more tolerant than the DFI nF3 & having recently built a VA-20 for a friend's parents that was probably my easiest build ever.
Now if VIA would just start shipping K8T890s etc. in quantity after announcing them 6 months ago ...

PS. I too agree that the 3200+ is better if you can pay the premium over the 3000+.

BUFF maybe they have improved with their K8Txxx series chipsets, the last few KTxxx boards i've owned have all had faults with them, maybe its just bad luck on my part

    I haven't tried nForce4 but certainly 2 & 3 have their issues.

As much as we would like to hope, I don’t think there will ever be a perfect chipset as long as humans are designing and creating them

BUFF.. I know what you mean about the NF2, my friend has one of those boards and its memory controller was whack..

3200+ will intherory be better as the mobo wont limit you so much with overclock.. wont need so much fsb to get it higher...

Where AMD64's are locked, is it only upwards or are younot able to lower the multi either (which would be a pita!)..

BTW, go for a SPAW code chip, if you can, cpucity let you chose (and have great service). They are suppost to overclock much better, like 3ghz!
They havent had any instock when I phoned, so instead I got 2x UPAW's which I hope would be similar..

    edit: lol @ [GSV]Trig avatar!

You can lower but not increase multi from default (FX excepted).
