Question ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING USB 3.1 Header connection/adaptor help please?

    Hi

I have a ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING motherboard and wanted to check what is the best way i can connect the Antec front USB 3 port to the USB 3 Header on the motherboard. I purchased the bellow adaptor which seemed to have worked as shows up in windows but when plugging in a USB stick all the files i copy over from a USB stick to the PC or vise versa it all becomes corrupted. Have noticed it when copying pictures over that all the images have loads of blocks in them and different colours. If i try doing the same in the front USB 2 ports instead they work fine.

    Thanks for your time.

That motherboard appears to have the standard 19-pin internal USB3 connector so I presume your case has something nonstandard. I'm guessing external USB Type A connectors from the adapter you've bought.

An adapter like the one you've bought is the best option but there's something faulty happening here. It's difficult to tell whether it's the case ports, the adapter or the motherboard ports from your description. I would try plugging a USB thumb drive into the adapter directly and see if that shows the same behaviour which would rule out the case ports.

It's more difficult to distinguish between the adapter and motherboard, do you have another motherboard or a friend with a desktop that you could try it in?

If it does turn out to be the adapter you can just get the seller to replace it.

You can do the same for the motherboard, but obviously that's much more hassle. As an alternative I see your motherboard has two USB2 headers so you can get a USB2 internal to Type A adapter and use that instead. You won't get USB3 speeds but the ports would be functional.

Thanks for taking the time to post, will try connecting a USB stick directly into the adaptor as that would help narrow it down cheers.

Is there any better adaptors i could be using instead?

    Cheers

Why are you not connecting it to the 19 pin internal on the motherboard?

The USB port that is on the front of the case has a USB ended cable to connect to the mainboard.

Re: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING USB 3.1 Header connection/adaptor help please?

If you plug a usb stick directly into the adaptor and it's still getting corrupted then it's probably the adaptor.

If you run the cable through to the IO and plug it into the rear usb sockets, you can test usb3 and usb2 ports, if you get no corruption then you can rule out the case usb/cable

if all the bits work on their own but not together then there's a compatibility with that adaptor+motherboard+case front panel.

what case are you using? that 902 v3 in your spec list? if so you could get the replacement usb3 front connector with 19pin header http://store.antec.com/parts/nine-hu...sb-module.html
