Home / Office PC for £700?

Need a bit of help here, as I have been slacking off and havent kept up to date with stuff thats available no more.

I have a friend whos looking to build (well, looking to pay me to build lol) a decent home / office PC thatll last a few years.

Now, the only clear-cut requirements I do have for the system is they want DVD-RW and TFT.

I was thinking of going along the lines of:

    3000+ A64 90nm S939
    1GB Geil Value 3200
    NEC 3520 Writer.

Now, the problem is, I have no clue what mobo to put in this system, or for that matter what gfx card either.

Gimme some recommendations plz guys. I dont see the system as being an overclockers heaven, or an "uber games machine" so the likes of NF4 and PCI-E etc.. really arent needed. I just dont know whats "good" as opposed to "best" anymore.

    Thx all

Motherboards based on the new ATI RS480/RX480 chipset are showing up now. They are as fast as NF4 boards but lack overclocking options. There is the MSI version for £69 @ Komplett.co.uk and the EQS M56K9-MLF for £75 @ gladiatorcomputers.co.uk.

They have on board ATI x300 graphics, which is the best on-board graphics solution. Can even play doom 3 albeit with pretty low settings. If they're looking to game then you could always pick up an x700 Pro for around £120 which is the best sub £200 ATI card, or a Geforce 6600GT for around the same money.

    Hi All,

Thank you for your support in EQS, just want to correct one point you mention.

In komplett.co.uk is selling 69+VAT because I went and check

In Gladiator is 75 inc VAT that 17.5% does make a different i guess.

Once again thanks for the Review in Hexus.net.

    Cheers
