Question USB microphone for gaming chat?

    Hi Hexites,

Could you spec me a small desk / monitor mounted microphone for multiplayer gaming chat please?

I'm temporarily using an Alienware R2 HTPC, which doesn't have any audio jacks, and my headphones are run through a Schiit DAC/amp. Thought about the Antlion modmic, but seems pretty expensive for what it is ($80 with the USB adaptor).

Are there any good quality, cheap and cheerful options out there please?

    Thanks!

    Su

cheap and cheerful is your best option if you want to keep the Schiit DAC/amp is a cheap clip on mic eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/MagiDeal-La.../dp/B0745HWXJR

You used to be able to get the Behringer C-1U cheaply (around £20-30) but it seems to have gone up now https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001QXCYZY
it's overkill for what you want but it's a great low cost condenser mic, although can be a bit quiet depending on how much current your usb port can actually output

    Hi Pob,

Thanks for the reccs! I ended up getting too deep down the negative review rabbit hole, then convinced myself I needed to spend more money Settled on the Modmic Business, which is essentially the same as the Modmic 4 but cheaper and with the USB adapter (although also a shorter cable).

    Hopefully does the trick!

    Cheers,
