    Christmas has come early :D

So I finally got round to upgrading my rig which was almost 8 years old .

It was a i7 870 (Lynnfield) running on a Gigabyte ixt board (GA-H55N-USB3) with 8Gb and stared life with a GTX260, then a R9 380 and finally a GTX1070 (which has moved into the new rig)

It was really starting to show its age in the last few months so I bit the bullet and pulled the trigger on the following:

    i7 8700K
    Asus ROG Strix Z370 G
16GB 2400 Balistix RAM (single stick, 2nd stick will be added in at a later date and then another 2 to allow me to run some test labs at home)
    Corsair H100i v2 AIO cooler
    Corsair RM650i PSU
    Corsair Carbide Air 240 Case
    Samsung 960 Evo 500Gb NMVE m.2
Zotac GTX1070 Mini (moved from my old rig)

My first impression was boy this case is huge! Moving up from the Silverstone SG07 it currently feels like I have this huge monstrosity on my desk...

The build went fairly easily with no blood spilled and only a moderate amount of swearing, who remembers the days of cases with razor sharp edges that sliced your fingers? Mostly the swearing was down to the placement of the first MNVE slot on the Strix Z370 G that floats above a couple of IC's and uses a tiny stand off that you need to place in the appropriate mounting hole of for the size of NMVE as the 960 is of the 2280 variety the standoff needed to go right next to the 2nd PCIE x1 slot. Que 10 minutes of me getting more and more frustrated trying to get the stand off in its mounting hole with the slot in the way. I ended up having to screw the mounting screw into the standoff and then mount both into the motherboard and then use a pair of needle nosed pliers to allow me to undo the mounting screw. The second MNVE slot uses a vertical riser

The AIO cooler was was easy to fit and is almost silent in normal operation, I can just hear a slight whirr from the pump.

2nd impression was ooooh my this is soooo much faster than my old RIG I ran it for a day or so at stock voltages/multiplier and then bumped it up and I'm currently running at 5.1Ghz which I am very happy with

I will be moving some of my SATA SSD's to the new rig after Xmas and tidying up the cabling.

Overall I am very very happy with my Xmas present to myself

    Isn't salad what food eats??

Nice, but do spare a thought for those of us still on an i7-870 and that was my update this year (from an i3-540)

Now for the real question. How many of the RGBs do you have?

No blood spilled? That makes it hard for me to believe that the build really happened.
