Kingmax Hardcore PC4000 500Mhz RAM reported as 333

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone can help me, I have a 1gb of Kingmaz ram (DDR500) but it is reported by my motherboard (A8N-SLI Deluxe) as being DDR333, why would this be the case?

more specs on the rest of your system would be more useful to identify the problem.. most notably your CPU and motherboard and if you are overclocking at all.

Sorry dude, I have a Athlon 3200+ 939 socket chip on a A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard. I have overclocked the system at moved the HTT to 250 with a mulitplier of 10, I thought as my system was over clocked at a higher HTT then the mem would run at ddr500?

are you sure that the memory is running in sync with the cpu? 1:1?

How do I make sure that this is the case, I have changed only the one dram setting and that was to try and force the memory to DDR500 but now it reports DRR400? All the timings etc are set still to auto.

The dividers are a bit ambiguous - the force 1:1 you need the set it to ddr400

I have the HTT at 250Mhz and the CPU with a multiplier of 10, I thought that for the Ram and Motherboard to run 1:1 then the DDR should be 500 as the RAM runs twice that of the FSB or HTT?

Yeah but it forces a divider - it really means (from hard ocp):

The memory ratios are set as follows, with the ratio listed as DDR FSB:CPU FSB, with all ratios assuming a based CPU clock speed of 200MHz: DDR200 is 1:2; DDR266 is 2:3; DDR333 is 5:6; DDR400 is 1:1; DDR466 is 7:6; DDR500 is 5:4; DDR533 is 4:3; DDR550 is 11:8; and 600 MHz is 3:2.

So, how would I get the DDR to run at 500, would I need to increase the FSB further, so the ratios are 5:4? I am sorry, I am quite new to overclocking and this is my first attempt.

If you want the HTT and memory to run at the same frequency, set it to DDR400, i.e. 1:1. Why ASUS didn.t just call it 1:2, 1:1 etc I'll never know... So if you are overclocking, gradually push the HTT up (with ddr400 set the memory will run in sync) until you hit a snag.

If you are not overclocking the CPU then just leave the memory running at 400mhz - there isn't much point in running the mem faster than the CPU.

Sorry, but would I need to run the FSB/HTT in excess of 250Mhz? to get the memory to run at ddr500? Would I still keep the CPU muliplier at 10? (As long as the system was still stable?)

You should be able to have the FSB at 200MHz and the memory running at 500MHz if you wanted.

I have the FSB/HTT running at 250Mhz, the Athlon 3200+ multiplier at 10 ensuring the CPU is running at 2500Mhz. This is stable but the motherboard (A8N-SLI Deluxe) still reports the memory running at DDR400 at boot.

Which BIOS are you using - I found that before I flashed to a newer BIOS everytime I set the memory in CPU settings and then change some settings in jumperfree, the CPU settings would revert back to auto.

Also try running CPU-Z www.cpuid.com - that will tell you waht frequency your mem/cpu is running at. When it says DDR400 at boot it may be reffering to the 1:1 divider...

Cheers Skuzgib, I will give this a go when I get home from work. I am sure I am on version 1003 as I flashed the Bios recently. I havent seen my bios revertthe settings to auto but I still have that stupid 'keyboard is not connected' message when I press the 'reset' button.
