EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
Hi All
I've just got back into building my own PC after a few years and am running into an issue I hope I can get help with.
My PC is a week old, and been running fine until yesterday where running modded Minecraft continuously crashes and the error log shows this error:
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x0000000077c377b1, pid=3120, tid=3420
I've looked around online and this tried all of the solutions including doing a complete reinstall of Windows but I'm still getting the error.
The only thing I did yesterday was to upgrade the motherboards BIOS.
I've messed around with running with just one Ram stick and switching them over but Memtest86 showed no errors on them.
So I'm a bit of a loss as to what could be causing the error? Other than Minecraft the PC has been stable with no other issues.
My spec:
I7 8700k (stock)
Asus Prime Z370-A
16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black
Asus GTX 1080 Strix
Thanks for any help!

Bit of a long shot but have you tried turning UAC off

Thanks, this was one of th first things I tried. Didn’t work unfortunately.
So I’ve just run another memtest and this time it has come back with 1 error. Odd as when I tested the sticks individually they were fine.
Would 1 error be enough to return them?
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
My first thought was memory. Do you know what the error was?
Shouldnt be showing any errors really
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
I have a screenshot but not sure how to post them?
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
It's an access violation, a software/programming error, *something* tried to access data, or call *something else* that it wasn't allowed to.
Not hardware or Windows; possibly an older mod where the location of the data has had privileges changed since it was written.
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
Satrow - Regardless there still shouldn't be any memory errors.
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
It's not a physical memory error, it's an error caused by software lacking the correct privileges to access the data - think of the memory management subsystem responding "you're not allowed access to that".
Re: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error
I know what your saying, I wasn't referring to that, I was referring to the fact that there shouldn't be any errors on the memtest.

That could well be the cause, there have been a lot of BIOS updates rushed out lately for Meltdown/Spectre.

Thanks all for your help! The problem has sorted itself out. Not sure if it was a Windows update or something else!
