AMD Vs Intel Review?

Does anyone know of a review or something that i could use to compare an AMD A64 3500+ to a Intel 775 2.8ghz? Some one has made me an offer to trade me there intel + pci-e board for my 3500+ winchester.

I would have thought that an Athlon 64 3500+ would be a far better choice than a 2.8 P4.

I don't think you'll find a review comparing those two, as they are in totally different leagues. Although the 775 2.8ghz is for a fairly modern chipset, the processor itself is rather old. The 3500+ is a very acceptable 64bit processor, plus, its for Socket 939.

Imho, you'd be far better of with the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ coupled with an Nforce 4 motherboard. :)

Well, video encoding wise, the P4 is better. However.... the 2.8ghz is an old processor, so I think the 3500+ would probably beat it, or come very close to beating it.

Either way, the 3500+ is the better chip, though quite a bit more expensive.

i know that's what i was thinking the 775 socket 2.8ghz is about £104 and my 3500+ is about £187 at scan, which is a big differents

Both chipsets will future proof you. Its just a case of deciding.

1) Do you want the Intel solution, where u buy into a good chipset, but buy a processor which would be something of a temporary solution until you could afford something slightly better.

2) Do you want the AMD solution, where u buy into a good chipset (You'd need to get the Nforce 4 or VIA's alternative to get PCI Express), and buy a processor which is very good, but will blow the budget a bit. However, this'd mean you wouldn't need to upgrade for a good while.

Both have pros and cons, its more or less down to whether you want to pay all now and not worry (AMD), or buy a bit now, and upgrade a bit later (Intel).

I have the 3500+, but i was thinking about changing my board in the next monet or so anyway to SLI or PCI-E. I think i might just keep the 3500+ with Windows 64bit coming out soon and the A64 chip has a virus protection on it :)

the virus protection is rather primitive

Not a problem :) - I too have the 3500+ abeit its running @ 2.6 Ghz atm. As long as you've a winchester they seem to be good overclockers and provide excellent performance gains when clocked as well.

Yeah, but its a small step in the right direction really and any help in the combat of viruses is greatfully recieved however small.

that's a cool OC :) i've only got the stock hsf on at the minute, so i don't really want to OC till i get something better or WC :D

yea, i was rather impressed with it myself, considering im only using el' cheapo RAM, im hoping to get some better stuff, keep the ram and cpu in sync and push it above 4Ghz.. only thing i'm peeved about is coders laziness to impliment SMP heavy duty processing to take advantage of Hyperthreading.. I know i could just disable the Hyperthreading mode to utilise 100% of cpu time when playing games and encoding video, but I do enjoy the smoothness of my windows desktop :)
