    NF7 mobo compatibility...

    Right, I'm moving the contents of my old rig (Shuttle SN45) into a full atx case using an Abit NF7 (not the S), now will I be able to boot up using my hdd without re-formatting? Its not gonna be permanant I just wanna copy some stuff off it to cdr before I format.

    XP can be really arsey, but being both nforce 2 based, it should work.
    Best bet is to boot into safe mode first, uninstall all drivers, boot into normal and reinstall them.

    I just upgraded to an NF7(with the S) and it got very arsey about getting into windows without a fresh install. Admittedly it was a very big leap, KT133A chipset > NF2, but it wouldnt let me into windows at all, either in Safe Mode or Recovery Console.

    Still worth a try first though, it didnt do any permanent damage, just hook up the old mobo and away you go again.

    The problem is XP creates certain files (hive.sys for one, I think) that are specific to the machine you installed it on.

    However, I believe there's a way around it (sometimes it'll just work anyway), although anything other than a fresh install is always going to be sloppy.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    just repair the XP install, i've just done that going from Nforce3 to VIA and at least you'll be able to get your files off before you do a fresh install.
