Is one or the other, guys. Help me make that choice. All the other spec is the same in both machines and the prices are the same so it's one of the above.
Thanks in advance. Dave.

Will the P4 be a prescott? If so you might want to get one and overclock it because you can potentially easily hit 3.4ghz with the right air cooling.
AMD 64 bit. I think over 75% of the Hexus dudes will shout that to you

Always good not too be a sheep. From having both amd64 and intel the intel was far quicker in windows and overall usage. In games amd64 does win but not by much against an overclock p4.
Depends - gaming then go the AMD route definately, but video and other encoding is won just by intel processors at the moment.

Shows just how GOOD the AMD is for gaming, as HL2 is the HARDEST on the system regarding requirements, processing power and GPU power requirements, plus it scales really good as well
If you do go for the AMD64 - make sure the chipset your getting is nforce4 as well as this performs much better as opposed to the last revision, the nforce3 but this does require a PCI-E based graphics card.

I have to disagree with you on the quicker in windows front too. Ive found the AMD64 to be around the same as Intel on a 32bit system, but 64bit windows is notably nicer on the AMD64. Problem is that the “smoothness” of windows is usually linked to the speed of the hard drive and controller in my experience, as it’s the largest bottleneck in either system, and will be for a long time to come.

dlewis- as Wildmonkey said, it depends entirely on what you want the computer for. For gaming, you'd be mad to go for anything other than A64. IMO A64 is the better choice as an all round system too; for a rig that's purely for office/websurfing work or video encoding, HyperThreading and good streaming performance gives the edge to Intel.
Horses for Courses really.
Rich :¬)
Considering a lot of the winchesters are overclocking to 2.6 / 2.7 on air, I'd go a64. I don't care how well pentiums run at the moment, the heat levels created compared to similarly performing AMD chips is just stupid.
Intel actually sent a representitive out to businesses in our area to gather feedback, and that's exactly what I told them too I had a right good bitch about them sticking their heads in the ground and ploughing on with flawed cores...
A64
athlon 64 3200+
AMD all the way
Baaaaaaaahhhh 64.
Another vote for the AMD 64
