I have run a home media server for a couple of years now, starting off with various old bits I had lying around but recently added some upgraded components to it. One part of it I haven't upgraded is the case. It's an ancient beige tower that was salvaged from a skip at a company I worked at some years ago and originally contained a Pentium 4 system. Surprisingly for something containing such a hot running CPU it has no space for a front fan and only room for a badly placed 80mm on the rear. It's also full of sharp edges that make your fingers bleed.
It's sited in the integral garage, running headless on a shelf, my concern is the hard drives in the front will want some air blowing over them when the garage warms up for the summer. Spec I'm after is:
1. Tower layout
2. Room for at least 1 120mm front fan, a rear 120mm fan is a bonus.
3. Room for at least 6 3.5" HDD, ideally more for future expansion.
4. As cheap as possible.
5. Bonus if the fans can be filtered.
Components going in are:
mATX smotherboard with Broadwell Pentium (so case can be mATX or full ATX)
5x 3.5" HDD
1x 2.5" SSD (has 3.5" adaptor plate so don't need 2.5" mounts)
PSU
What do the great minds of Hexus recommend?
