    DFI Lanparty nF4 SLi-DR - memory requirements

    Hey all,

Im looking for some help.........im looking to build a new machine with the above (DFI Lanparty nF4 SLi-DR ) motherboard - an amd 64 3400 chip in it with various assorted gubbins.

Im looking for 2gb of ram for the box and need some help on this.

Whilst money is an object and is an issue, i do have a fair amount of cash set aside for the memory - so want to know what sort of thing i should be looking at here?

    ddr or ddr2?
    2x1gb chips or 4x512mb chips
what make and what speed etc.

Memory is the one thing i am crap with so any help would be appreciated. Any guide on prices to pay for what you suggest would also be helpfull.

    thanks guys!

First off, unless you're doing 3D Design/CAD work or a lot of photoshopping, 2Gb is a waste of money - and even then you'd be better off buying a FireGL or Matrox 2D card.

If you absolutely positively must go with it you want DDR. DDR2 isnt supported by AMD chips, as its only for Intels. Best config would ideally be 2x1Gb, should you ever need to add more RAM later
As for makes, Crucial Ballistix, Corsair or OCZ are about the best available, and you want to be looking for PC3200. CAS2 if you can, although CAS2.5 will be fine as well.

As for cost, you're going to be looking at least the fat end of £400.

    Excellent - thanks for that.

Im kinda thinking the same - why bother with 2gb - i always tell people that you wont get the use out of 2gb.

Right, decision is to go for 1gb ddr 3200 ram - but do i do it in 1x1gb chip or 2x512mb chips?

    edit :

    1 Gb (2 x 512 Mb) Corsair TwinX-XL, DDR, PC3200XLPT, Cas 2, Lifetime Warranty @ 183 inc vat.

From scan - thats what im now lookin at!
