    External Hard Drive Enclosure - Cascadable!

    I'm looking for and External USB or Firewire Hard Drive Enclosure which you can cascade together? Or even a ready build one (maxtor, seagate etc.)

    I've only seen one such type made by ULTRA products, but no one seems to stock it in the UK?

    Thanks for suggesting the obvious......I did call them before posting the thread. The only people selling Ultra products in the UK are Simply Computers and KustumPC, and neither are stocking the enclosures or likely to in the near future.

    Not exactly what you want, but I have just bought two of the new Maxtor 300Gb 7200rpm 8Mb cache external USB2/Firewire drives.

    You can cascade the firewire on them, as I have it like that on my laptop at the moment.

    Amazon selling them

    Actually this would also be useful if you can cascade using the firewire port.

    May I ask, does the PC see the two drives separately with two drive letters, or as one big drive?

    Also, how much noise does it make and does it have a built-in cooling fan, or is it a passive as such?

    Your thoughts will be appreciated?

    Cheers

    It'll see two separate devices.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It sees them as two big drives. They come pre-formatted in Fat32, but it's simple to convert them to NTFS ( assuming you're using XP/W2K of course ).
    They are virtually silent in operation and come with all the cabling you need.

    The exact model I have is here:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...666192-8810266

    It's my review on the page too

    I didn't search for any other supplier, as I can only generally use Amazon, but to be honest, I've always been really happy with the speed of delivery and customer service, I wouldn't look elsewhere anyway
