Can not enable RAM XMP

Hello!
I'm using 2x8GB Kingston HyperX "2933MHz" RGB sticks. The problem is: After building my PC it started running on 2400MHz. Alright so I went into the BIOS to enable XMP. I "enabled" it and nothing changed. Not even in the BIOS (kind of). There's something interesting. Here's a not mine image but it shows how the BIOS looks like.

So the thing is, on the left of the DRAM frequency setting it shows the current frequency (I'm guessing). But it never changes at all. It might mean that the frequency is locked like that despite the fact you can change the setting itself. So this is also maybe playing some role in the current case. I tried both XMP profiles. (there are 2 XMP profiles: one running on 2666MHz and one on 2933MHz). Also I want to note that I have checked my motherboard manual and I can run dual-channel memory both at 2666 and 2933, on the exact memory slots I'm using. I haven't got way too much of an issue running 2400 but in the end of the day I want to use what I paid for. I'm also using HW Info where in the memory tab I get this:

As you can see in the memory type it says DDR4-2400. I'm not sure what this means exactly and if it matters but I'm pointing it out just in case. Is it possible that I'm missing something in the XMP process? In some places I've seen this is some bug and gets fixed if timings and frequencies get changed manually. Should I go for the manual approach?

I'm having issues with mine as well, XMP in BIOS will let me pick it but the machine crashes when stressed if I enable it.
Have left the BIOS to sort its own shiz with the RAM as I CBA..

Ryzen is a bit more picky about RAM timings - XMP is usually only verified for Intel CPUs at the moment unless you buy 'Ryzen optimised' RAM, which tends to be similar but with a few timings loosened.

I would go manual for Ryzen using the famous DRAM calculator:

(Conversely, for Intel I've found XMP pretty well optimised - every sub-setting I tried to investigate I found was already tightened up, which possibly explains why it's not working so well on Ryzen)

I have an MSI MOBO. I set XMP and the voltage and its set to go. I can't remember if you need to specify the speed.

It boots as normal after you set the xmp? Its not having a fit and reverting to safe settings?

Don't forget to ask ASRock support too - they may be able to test the RAM if they have it also (or they may ask you to send it to them so they can test it).

XMP for me works with Ryzen but my memory is 3600. I spend a lot on flarex too in the past just to make sure it worked with Ryzen 1 nicely.

I would try adjusting the memory settings manually & seeing what are the fastest stable settings you can achieve. Also, if there is a bios update available, it's possible that it may address ram compatibility.

As an interesting aside (and a bit OT I know), Intel actually considers XMP a form of overclocking. If you ever need to RMA an Intel CPU under warranty, Intel support will ask you whether you were using XMP, and if you answer 'yes', they will tell you that the warranty is void! (I saw a Gamers Nexus video about this).

Well TBF,it might apply to AMD too. Both Intel and AMD have officially supported memory speeds on their CPUs. IIRC it's 2666MHZ for Intel,2666MHZ for Zen,2993MHZ for Zen+ and 3200MHZ for Zen2. Anymore is technically running the IMC at an overclock,so AMD is actually more generous than Intel here!

Hi, I`ve searched the datasheets at HyperX https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/...5PB3AK2_16.pdf and it looks like your memory comes with 2 xmp profiles and default settings of 2400Mhz. Now, having Asrock motherboard myself (ab350 pro4) I can tell you it worked on mine, but I did modify the setting to manual (Ryzen7 3700x, corsair vengeance 3200 MHz).

The XMP profile on my RAM isn't stable either. With some tweaking using the RAM calculator it's actually stable at a faster speed than XMP.

I would always use manual rather than rely on XMP. Have done ever since I had issues with it on s1156. I also find you can often drop the voltage from what XMP thinks you need without having to worsen any of the timings. I'd much rather know what voltage is happening than trust something else to get it right for me (when experience tells me sometimes it is rather cavalier!)

Look into manually overclocking your RAM, it gives you a lot more control over these things and you can fine tune it so it actually works for your CPU/mobo.
