    Quiet PSU

Anyone any ideas as to what the quietest psu (none passive) is at the moment. I've got an antec trueblue but its starting to annoy me.

Don't really want to go passive as I think it will heat up the case too much, the gigabyte passive 6600gt is hot enough already without something else adding to the surrounding temperature.

I got a Targan PSU, I can't really hear it to be honest. There have been some dodgy batches recently as people have had them blow up on them but mine seems fine... touch wood. My old Enermax used to be quiet too, not sire what the new Noisetaker ones are like though. As always depends on your definition of quiet. Think the enermax units come with fan adjusters on them anyway so at least you can moderate the noise to some degree

my first tagan was ticking...apparently this is a sign its about to blow up - and given it was less than 10mins old this was a bad sign. I got it replaced and all is quite ...apart from my CPU fan !

SilenX PSUs are supposed to be pretty quiet, their case fans are very quiet and as far as I know their PSUs use the same fans... I don't know whether it's the quietest though. Have a look around on sites such as Silent PC Review and see what you can find.

There's a good list at the bottom of this page

butcher - thats what mine was like but I rma's back to scan straight away and fault was confirmed. its got 18month warentee so you'd be wise to get it sorted just in case it blows - there have been reports of tagans going funny after a while...

hmmm...do it again. mine makes NO noise - just the rushing of air, which itself is very quiet

Well, if I come home tonight and the power supply is smoking and whipping it's cord around like a scorpion's tail - I'm blaming you! ;D

RMA leaves me sans computer for several days, not an appealing thought.

I've just installed some new fans and a fan controller in my case and I can hear my tagan ticking... It sounds like one of the fans that's doing it though - I can only hear it if I turn all my other fans onto minimum and have my head next to the PC... It's very regular and frequent (hence why I think it's a fan)... What is the "tick of death" like...? Is it loud enough to be heard over normal fan noise?

I've got one of the silentX ones (ATX) which i bought from KustomPCs.

It is very quiet and rated at quieter than 14dB i think, it is just audiable with head up against it but i think thats mainly because of the noise from hard drive etc you can hear through it and because its throwing out a fair amount of heat (Only 1 case fan)

I guess the silentX is as quiet as you will get
