We were sooo wrong on the price! $1000? FAKE NEWS! It's $999!
On the positive side I might be able to pick up a cheapish GTX 1080...
That RTX 2080Ti is well above my expectations. From reading all the leaks I assumed it would have specs similar to what the RTX 2080 has. This is complete domination by NVIDIA now. I can't see how AMD can possibly counter this. Good job AMD lead in consoles/APU's as a lot of gamers are going to be priced out of dedicated graphics cards going on those prices.
$600 for the 2070. So, with VAT, Rip off Britain etc, that'll be roughly £600.
You're having a laugh. This is supposed to be for playing games.
I can only hope that a) prices will plummet when the channel is cleared of 1000 series GPUs, b) AMD can counter this - but their prices aren't looking that great either these days.
My main concern was with some of the effects - I watched the livestream. In the Metro one, they on purpose made some of the non-RTX lighting and shadow models look worse than what I have seen in games, even modded FO4 FFS,to emphasis the effect of it.
For content creators the new Nvidia cards probably will be an amazing step forward though, but I am not so sure for ther average gamer. Might have to see the effects in person to make a full judgement though.
I wont be upgrading my 1070 for a good few years then. :(
Be interesting to see how long the prices stay at this level though.
Well, a number things going on there though:
- AMD's die sizes is bigger, which means they need
- bigger, more expensive boards
- HMB2 is expensive but due to a combination of spending so long helping to develop it, and not having a fall-back design using GDDR they're stuck with it
That HBM is also in short supply probably means they think they are as well to keep to high price too.
Of course, part of the reason why AMD's die is bigger is because they don't have a big enough budget to make a gaming and a computer card so they end up with a jack-of-all design.
Just checked and a local dealer has the cards up for preorder. Never thought I'd see a consumer graphics card on the wrong side of DKK 10.000, but there's a first for everything, apparently.
This is the cheapest of the lot, by the way. And it seems there was a pre-preorder...
This is just insane!
"Cheapest of the lot", cheap doesn't deserve to be in your sentence! :D
I was going to make some comparison about an entry level Aston Martin still not being cheap, but I feel associating nvidia with Aston puts Nvidia in a higher light than it deserves.
Personally, I think you'd be a fool to buy this a) before independent benchmarks are released covering current games as well as ray traced games, b) the channel has cleared of 1000 series stock.
One can go further from fool to prudent by including c) waiting to see if and how AMD respond. Being prudent is a bit of a stretch when it comes to new toys, but there is no reason to be a fool!
