    Itx build help

I am looking to build an itx system. I have built many pc's over the years but have lost touch as to what is now compatible and up to date.

    What I need is:

Itx Motherboard for Intel CPU and has wireless
Intel CPU with decent graphics built in
    16gb ram
Hard drive. SSD or the newer type that fixes to mobo?
    Modular psu

I have an itx case. It's a Raijintek Metis

    Any help would be superb.

I want to buy a system that can play games at low setting for now as I will add a GPU at a later date.

Not sure on budget. Guess max £500 lower would be best. Thank you

    Re: Itx build help

Umm,worst time to buy an Intel CPU is now, since prices have gone up by massive amounts due to 14NM capacity issues, any place which has them available for reasonable prices usually has a long lead time.

For example, this is a £160 CPU until a month or so ago:

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...mhz-gpu-65w-cp
    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel...cp-63u-in.html

Amazon has it cheaper but says the lead time is one to two months currently.

So if you really want to get an Intel CPU you need to find a deal which is at RRP,or probably wait a few months and see if the supply improves.

The other alternative would be a Ryzen CPU or a Ryzen APU if you don't have a graphics card. The Ryzen APUs have the best integrated graphics of any CPU available for desktops.

Much better now. AMD has the edge in a lot of non-gaming stuff, and with gaming is a tad behind(unless you are going for a 5GHZ Core i7 8700K and a £700 graphics card).

    What are you upgrading from??

Even the £80 to £90 Ryzen 3 2200G with cheaper RAM is significantly faster if using the onboard graphics than more expensive Intel CPUs:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_ikoRsNcuk&
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQpYOHSazAU

Intel integrated graphics is not that great in comparison TBH.

The Core i5 8400 is faster than the 2200G/2400G on the CPU side though, but its a £130.

The CPUs above that on the AMD side like the Ryzen 5 2600 are faster still, but lack any form of integrated graphics:

The Ryzen 5 2600 is currently £142 from Amazon:

The 2400G looks the best compromise then in that regards. The Core i5 8400 price increase makes it a poor value for money, relative to the Ryzen 5 2600,but the Ryzen 5 2600 has no integrated graphics and the integrated graphics on the Core i5 8400 is a bit meh too.

Are you going to overclock or not??

I have a mini-ITX system too,and I am in the process of upgrading,so did a bit of research on the AM4 motherboards.

Do you intend to overclock or are you going to run everything at stock settings??

No overclocking. Willing to go AMD. Last time i used AMD was a lifetime ago! Lol

What would you suggest for CPU, MOBO and RAM? Links to products too would be a massive help. Thank you

    Re: Itx build help

I looked through a few models,so I would say this one looks the best one since you are considering the Ryzen 5 2400G:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...&condition=new
    https://www.ebuyer.com/854883-asrock...-gaming-itx-ac

A mate used that board and this RAM recently with a Ryzen 5 2400G:

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/25...hite-/RAM3778/

It ran at 3GHZ out of the box.

There is an MSI board which is technically better(it has a stronger VRM) but retailers are having issues restocking the board, but since you are not overclocking the ASRock should do the job. The Asus B450 Strix is decent, but is not geared towards APUs so lacks VRM capacity for the integrated graphics. The Gigabyte B450 board has poor VRM cooling so runs hot which is a shame.

    Re: Itx build help

if it were me I'd go AMD. Intel don't deserve custom at the moment, they're trading on reputation rather than substance right now. It's a good kick up the backside and if we don't buy AMD when their chips are actually the better option we can't complain about lack of competition etc.

It still sets expectations though. If that last PC was a Pentium 4, then *anything* you buy now will feel shockingly fast. If it was a recent i7, that's a different game

Your old system had a solid upgrade path - plonk in a Core i7 and your daughter will have a very good gaming CPU even with a highish end GPU.

Yep, but as I said it sets a background.

If you want to game on integrated graphics, here is how an AMD 2400G compares against slightly newer i3 chips:

Obviously if/when you add a graphics card that changes, but they are still decent chips.
