nforce audio driver headache

hi

i have an abit nfs7 v.2 mobo and recently installed a audigy 2 s/c which doesn't work as it buzz's in all pci slots.

anyway, the drivers all messed up and my system crashed and it has now lost my audio drivers so i get no sounds. its the on-board one. i uninstalled all nforce drivers and re-installed them via the driver disc that came with mobo, still no joy.

downloaded nforce 2,03 driver pack and installed that, still o joy. i now have 4.57 nforce audio driver pack but can't see how to install them, if these will actually sort the issue out. so 2 things:

1) how do i install the drivers without an exe file?

2) is it going to be quicker and easier to do the format and reload windoes etc which i'm thinking of doing maybe.

someone please help, it's doing my head in :)

1) the actual driver itself is an .inf file. If you have this, you can install manually through Device Manager.

2) yes probably

Just to cover all the possibilities, have you made sure the Onboard audio is enabled in the BIOS?
...... I've wasted about 2 hours trying to figure out why i wasnt getting any sound doing that before :heckle:

Might be a daft question but is the onboard sound enabled or disabled in bios?

go into BIOS (hit Delete on startup) go into Advanced or Chipset features (dunno which)

find Audo or AC97 or similar...

disable..

quite out of BIOS saving the change...
then in Windows go into Control Panel and Add Reove programs and take OUT the audio drivers (might be a PART of the nforce 2 drivers kit......tick the ones you want out or in)


then install Audigy :) and Audigy drivers

There may also be a jumper on the board itself. On-board audio is usually switchable in the bios tho.

With the NF7S it'll be under integrated peripherals in bios iirc. Still the best sound I ever had on a mobo but the drivers drove me mad.

Lesson No.1 : Never use Creative Sound Cards, the specs maybe good & they may sound good IF they work but their drivers are the biggest piece of crap bloatware ever designed.

Lesson No. 2 : If previous lesson has not been learnt then use kx designed drivers, they are infinitely better.

Lesson No. 3 : Do not complain to Creative that their peice of crap hardware has just committed hari kiri due to a design flaw (EEPROM bug) unless you enjoy relentlessly banging your head against a brick wall. They will not listen or offer any kind of support and complaining frequently on their forums will result in your account being barred (Overclockers UK must be modding that board as well :) )

jim/zak: my audigy card was a re-conditioned one that i havent used since buying it, 8 mths ago, so the warranty is no more. was only £30. cheers though.

everyone else: i had checked the bios and it was all ok after my audigy card didn't work, i went back and enabled on board sound as i had previously dis abled it.

rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishey: i have downloaded and un zipped the drivers file to a seperate folder, but can't find were to add them under the device manager. nothing has a little wellow warning triangle next to it. what do i do mate??

i have also uninstalled ALL nforce drivers 2 or 3 times, done a system restore to last week but nowt works. i may throw the machine out or sell it now :(

What sound/devices are listed in device manager and which nvidia audio mixer/control is installed?

Back on topic and apologies for straying off, as kushtibari said above, has the Nforce audio chip actually been picked up in the Device Manager, i.e. can you see anything nforce related under Sound, Video & Game devices.

the nvidia audio drivers are no longer listed nor will they insatl.

are the legacy ones something to do with that audigy card??

The legacy ones are standard windows drivers for very old programs. They are always there even if you don't have a sound card installed at the moment (mines disabled as my new PSU doesn't have the -5v that the MSI platinium requires).

These look like the nvidia drivers

are you sure that that is disabled within the bios (integrated devices - sound) from memory.

yep, enabled under the bios, cheeked twice.

i'm sure there used to be nvidia audio drivers also listed if memory serves correctly.

it's when i go to use soundstorm and click it it say no audio drivers presents, re-install

I've had this trouble before as well.With the Audigy soundcard you must use the instalation disk that came with the card to install the card.Then you can install the audio updates as well.Get them here..

This worked a treat for me.
Make sure you have selected the audigy card as your default card.Go in to your control panel/sounds and audio devices/Then click on the Audio tab.Make sure in the Default device box it says SB Audigy Audio.Than at the bottom tick the Use only the default device box.Apply then exit.
As for Nforce drivers.I have used Layzeh's redifened drivers with no probs for quite a while now so I'd recomend you try them.Get them here..

You sure you have removed all traces of the creative drivers and the nforceII audio drivres.

The only thing i can sugest is that you download the nfroce drivers again

apex, yes mate, just done it all again but now i will use your download as it has audio drivers stated as my others didn't.

i also used driver cleaner to remove all traces of creative. i'll un-install them all again in 2 sec's. cheers for link, i'll post my report later :)

gets weirder mate. i am going to format which i had planned on doing as it's getting a joke now.

re-installed 4 times to no avail. i is confused!!!!

well, it still dont work. i havent formatted because my system is running quicker than it has for ages.

i may as well buy a audigy soundcard as not one of the 5 driver file i've downloaded has anything to do with the soundstorm - maybe that other thread has something to do with it??

it just won't recognise my audio driver :(

you sure you have turned the onboard audio back on ?

you tellin me mate. yep, onboard sound is definately on, i have checked 4 times since :(

i have cleared the cmos now, un-installed rebooted twice as states on the un-instal message, ran driver cleaner pro and then re-installed after another re-boot. still nowt.

message now say that the nvidia mixer cannot recognise any nforce chipset products on my pc???

have i knackered the onboard chipset for sound do you reckon??

if so, i'll buy a seperate soundcard.
