    Your assistance please guys

This is doing my freaking nut in

I've got this cheap and cheerful motherboard from Ebuyer, 1 stick of 256 DDR400

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=59287

    and a Sempron 2200 CPU.

I can't get the damn thing to detect the CPU at the correct speed. It detects it as a Sempron but at 900mhz, in the bios it only gives me the option the option to change the cpu speed from 100 to 132, (at 132 it fails to reboot)

How the hell do I change the FSB on this thing ?

Have you tried updating the bios? Do you know that this particular sempron is compatible?

FSB should be 166 I believe so something is seriously wrong. Apart from the wrong fsb does it work properly? Can windows run?

Everything is fine - windows has loaded ok, everything else is cool, but this sempron should work on this board, so I don't understand why the fsb is stuck at 100

just read some reviews from the link you posted and some guy reckons he had a similar prob as you and that a bios update is needed to recorgnise the sempron correctly, though in his case all he did was enter the bios and up the fsb to 166.

As Agent suggested check for a jumper as alot of boards have a jumper to change between 100fsb and 133fsb and up.

Ah yes the PC Chips Motherboard manual, no mention of FSB jumpers anywhere, not even on the motherboard diagram.

Well I found them - two jumpers near the cmos battery need to be set to pins 2+3 (both on 1+2 by default), no now the CPU is recognised as a
Sempron 1500, which is an improvement I guess

I d/loaded the manual off the PcChips site last night, pages 7, 11 and 12 show the jumpers with a little chart for the settings.

    AFAIK..
Semprons are basically rebadged Palamino Athlons that take over from the Durons but work out a bit less pokey than the Barton Athlon's due to less cache and a 133 FSB instead of a 166/200 FSB....

Thoroughbreds. Palamino chips haven't been made for quite some time. Semprons are basically thoroughbred cores running at 166FSB, which AMD reckons is enough to bump up the model number for the overall clock speed (so for instance what would've be a 2000XP is a 2400 sempron).

The only different ones are the socket 754 variants (currently the 3100+ only), which are cut down athlon 64s, and much better performers as a result.

    A Sempron 2200 is a 1500mhz (9x166) cpu isn't it?
