    Buying a new DVD-Rom Drive

I'm looking at buying one of these to replace my old Samsung one that has given up on me recently. Perusing around various sites I have been unable to find many reviews or recommendations as to the best one to buy. All I find is info on DVD-Writers mainly.

I know this is a fairly inexpensive upgrade and performance probably doesnt differ that much between most drives, but could you please make some recommendations to any particular drive so I know that my money will go towards something that is of decent quality?

Money is not really an issue, but I dont want a DVD Writer. Also I would prefer Tray rather than Slot Loading.

Thanks, hope you can help some

    Go with the liteon...

Its cheap, fast (32x CD 'backups' on the fly etc) and cheerful.

Its also well supported via firmware updates and easy to make region free.

    nuff said really

and no I dont work for JVC....

    Liteon it is!

Thanks for all your views, the undisputed choice will have to be the Lite-on I shall buy one online today.

I know that Plextor are definately the choice for Writers, and so undoubtably their dvd drives are probably likely to be quite good too, however the majority swings it, I shall go Lite-on.

    Thank you

i had a Liteon and NEC before, both were 16x. the liteon is a tad noisy so i sold it to my friend. the NEC is extremely quite but i had to give it away just to satisfy a buyer to buy my old P3 system.
