Actually the Sempron model numbers are intended to be compared to the performance of Intel Celerons rather than against the old T-bird *cough*P4*cough* measurement. Intel screwed that up straight away by introducing Celeron model numbers.Originally Posted by Byatt
As of about two weeks ago you can get 2600, 2800 and 3000 S754 Semprons too.The only different ones are the socket 754 variants (currently the 3100+ only),
2600: 1.6GHz, 128KB L2 cache
2800: 1.6GHz, 256KB L2 cache
3000: 1.8GHz, 128KB L2 cache
3100: 1.8GHz, 256KB L2 cache
All the new models are 90nm. Komplett have the full range, including 90 and 130nm versions of the 3100.

so, I have an old 2100xp...would that still be better than the more recent semprons? as I understand it the semprons are the 'next' duron [how much does that sound like a contraceptive? ]
p.s. don't worry, I do have a more updated machine running an AMD64 3000 winny the poo (939), just wondering if there's anything I can do with a chip that still works and get away with 'just' buying a new mobo (replace the exploded one )

an athlon xp 2100 will be fine for playing games at medium settings for sure, i did it until 9 months ago. paired one with a rad 9600 which did the job at the time. worth putting together if you have the spare bits. could use it as a file server or a lan box? or infact just as a perfectly capable web browser/word processor?
