    Intel vs AMD comparison

For some time i've had an AMD equipped PC (see sig) believing that they outperform Intel. Well I've taken the plunge and bought a PC with P4 processor 530 with HT technology (3.00GHz, 800fsb, 1MB cache). Which AMD chip compares to this most closely as regards performance. Thanks

An AMD64 3000+ is about the closest you'll get, though the 3000+ outperforms it on most things..Cept some vid encoding

Video coding the pentium will win, but if you wanted amachine for gaming you should have really gone with a 64bit AMD

Why are you asking this question? Surely you have compared the merits and price of each option and bought the one that most suits you (or are you having doubts) I suggest you get on and enjoy your new comp.

unless you do one of the following :

    edit and encode video,

run very VERY repeatitive tasks (mp3 encoding for example),

    some 3d modelling applications,

applications that HT improve as they cannot fill the pipeline firstime around (who could at 30 steps?!) which are then better than AMD by a margin,

your PC doubles up as a heater,

your one of those kind who believes intel is more reliable,

or (most importantly) have to deal with DELL as your workstation/server supplier + your boss hasnt heard of AMD or thinks its a drug....

there's little reason why one would want to pick Intel.

Multi-tasks, absolutely winner is intel but in gaming, AMD is the best choice. However, intel has released Intel 6xxx which maybe improve in gaming.

Show me an instance where HT (making two slower processors out of one faster processor) helps other than in benchmarks and programs written to take advantage of it? Aquamark and Sandra are the only examples I can site. Hardly compelling.

AMD is and always will be the better value as long as they are the little guy and Intel is the big guy. It's the only way AMD can compete.
