Mini ITX gaming build - Budget £1200
Hi chaps,
Would like your input on a build I'm working on which will be my main rig for many years to come I hope. This will predominantly be used for gaming, although it will be used for almost everything I do, work wise anyway.
I've made the decision to go for a mini ITX build this time, purely for the small form factor. The one outstanding component which I'm having difficulty deciding on is the GPU. In order to fit the budget I've been toying around with a 1070 and 1070Ti, however, there are just so many different variants out there, ranging at different prices, I'm just not sure which will work best for me. I must add that I'm going for a black and white themed build, so a red coloured GPU just won't work. I must also add I will plan on overclocking this at some stage, hence the 'k' variant of the CPU.

I will be purchasing a 1440p monitor for this build sometime soon, which isn't part of the allocated budget.
What are your thoughts on the build as it stands? Perhaps there is an area where money can be saved or better utilised?

Im just building one at the moment too.
I went for a 1070ti, intresting fact i only found out about while reaseaching my build regarding the 1070ti, is that all the variants are exactly the same. Nvidia did not want overclocked versions on the market, the reason is that they are basically 1080's with different slightly slower memory.
Im only gaming in 1080p for the living room, but got the 1070ti for 390 from ebuyer, so it will give me a bit of headroom. I decieded on the following system. Some i brought over from the UK, and some from spain.
From Ebuyer in the UK
Zotac 1070ti Mini 389.99 GBP (which is dark grey, black with an aluminium heatsync) the Zotac logo is white led.
ASRock B450 GAMING-ITX 112.98
HyperX Predator 16GB (2x8GB) RGB 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 143.99 (They have non RGB version for 134.98)
From PCcomponentes Spain
Ryzen 5 2600 at 161.90 EUR
From Amazon Spain
Samsung 860 EVO - 500GB 78.95 EUR
Samsung 970 EVO M.2 - 250GB 72.99 EUR
NZXT H200 case 89.90 EUR
DeepCool Captain 240 Ex RGB 95.60 EUR (comes with RGB strip and is compatible with the ASrock MB)
I have a 1000W Asaka Venom left over from my Bitcoin mining days so i didnt need a new PSU (the case takes SFX and ATX PSU's)
I would say the sweet spot for 1440p would be a 1070TI or similar, It all depends on how smooth you like to game. consoles vsysnc at 30 FPS in 1080p and the masses don't seem to mind. So you could run 1440p on a 1060 if you wanted. But personally I like to pay a bit extra and know ill be able to go Ultra settings with ax draw distance. Having said that anying over 60FPS is pointless imo.
As for the black and white look at the NZXT black and white. also they have some completed builds here.

some on air, some custom water cooling loops and many aio builds.
Good luck with the build!

Also you should probably consider Ryzen, it looks like the upgrade path is going to be more attractive than Intel for the forseable future. Next gen zen (3000 series) will be on par with intel for performance per core in games, much faster in tasks and at a much lower price point. I don't see any reason to go Intel at the moment unless you already own an intel motherboard, and upgrading a current system.

Intel really screwed themselves on that, too, since they demanded a new chipset sale with practically every new CPU generation. If you have a skylake/kabylake system, you're pretty much screwed as far as current CPU upgrade options are concerned.

The AMD platform has definitely caught my eye. There isn't much difference between the R5 2600x and i5 8600k. Obviously one works better than the other in certain scenarios.
I currently have a build dating back 2009 I believe, utilising the first gen i7 930 so there isn't anything that I can take from it, apart from the PSU and hard drives I guess.
The question I'm asking myself is which AMD chipset do I pair the R5 2600x to? From the small amount of research I've done on Ryzen, the b450 chipset seems the best option.
