GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
I've been looking at a GPU upgrade for a long time now and with the release of the 2060 I'm finally going to do it.
My quandry is whether to choose the RTX 2060 or 2070. I'm wanting to move up to 1440p resolution and buy a high refresh monitor at the same time as the new card. My concern is that my pc build will be cpu bottlenecked at the higher frames/resolution.
Put simply, I want a card that will run games at 60+ fps at 1440p. I don't want to spend the extra on the 2070 if I won't actually see much of a performance gain over the 2060 if the rest of my build is the limiting factor.
Note: I'll be building a new pc in 2-3 years once a game I've backed is eventually released.
Current Spec:
i5 4670k
EVGA GTX 670
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 4x4GB
Samsung 840 SSD 250GB
Thanks,
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
I reckon games like Forza Horizon 4 and Battlefield V will probably be limited by that CPU. I've seen users of CPUs in similar calibre to yours currently being the bottleneck.
I'd recommend you get the 2070 if your budget allows. The price difference isn't much but it offers about 20% better performance and you may well upgrade your base system in the future.
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
Your pc is beginning to age 8gb will not be enough going forward and cpu is getting old more games will be supporting 6-8+ threads. I'd go with a 2060 and put 2x 8gb ram in if you not upgrading the cpu for a few years.
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
Yeah I tried using a benchmark site prior to posting here to see a comparison, but I guess with the age of the cpu (I purchased the parts mid-2013) it won't be commonly paired with a 20 series gpu.
I wouldn't be getting BFV with the current Nvidia promo (I got too annoyed with BF4!), but I'd pick up Anthem as a few mates have already pre-ordered. I'm not expecting much from it really.
Note, I do currently have 16gb RAM.
Thanks for your input.
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
You will be bottlenecked by the CPU even if you upgrade to 2060. I suggest don't go for 2070 save that money and go for i7 4790k used as its still a good CPU and get 2060.

The i7 4790k while still and excellent cpu is pricey on the used market and the motherboard is a dead end. If I was to spend over 150-200 on a CPU I'd save more and change everything
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
The 2070 doesn't seem that much faster than the 2060 for the money. If you want fast you need to stump up for the 2080, but the 2060 is probably good enough for you. I can't see much need for the 2070 to exist at current pricing.
I guess that's what happens when the 2060, 2070 and 2080 all use the same chip. Same happened with Geforce 4 many years ago, I got the 4200ti, many got the 4600ti. No-one wanted the 4400ti.
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
I bought the zotac RTX2060.. currently running it with an ancient FX8320 cpu (hoping to upgrade in next couple of months) and its really good.
mind you - my prior card was a prehistoric AMD R9 280 so was expecting a big increase!!

Well, IMO, if you are going for the 2070 go for it, if not get a 1660ti. The performance uplift between the 1660ti and a 2060 is 10 frames max.
Re: GPU Upgrade RTX 2060 vs 2070
I think holding out for a good deal on a 2070 makes sense if you're planning an upgrade at some point. The 1660ti makes more sense at this exact moment but if you're not in a rush that will change over the next few months.

+1 1660ti good deals on 2070 wont be around for a while

I picked up a Zotac RTX 2070 AMP! Edition from Gumtree, with box and original sales invoice (£589 on the 1st of December). He hadn't registered the warranty either so I got that sorted out.
£320.
Keep your eyes peeled for deals.
