    Shuttle Fubared

Built a Shuttle system for my mum about 4 months ago and its been working perfectly up until now. the problem is now that when switched on it powers up but the monitor gets no signal. the internal fan is spinning like crazy so it sounds like it isn’t even reaching windows although i cant tell for sure.

ive tried a agp vid card and different monitor with no luck. there are no beeps coming from the machine to give me a clue what could be wrong. Anyone had a similar problem or got any ideas?

    thanks

What model is it? Have you played with any of the o/cing settings?

Sounds like I've got same probs as yours - look for recent post with my XPC SB75G2. If you learn anything useful, please let me know - I'll do the same.

    thanks for your replies,

yes tedvs is does sound like the same problem

its a Shuttle SK43G and no o/c settings have been touched, this came out of the blue. here's the strange thing - i cleared the cmos with no luck then i swapped the ram to some out of another machine no luck so i placed the old ram back and it booted! i went into bios and it froze there. i reset and rebooted and now its working perfectly again or so it seems.

i had tried reseating the ram before so i dont think it was that, it is some strange intermittent issue i guess.

i found others with this issue here:

ive emailed shuttle as well to see if it's a known issue but apart from that now its working i cant find out what the problem was, just hope it doesn’t happen again

Good luck with emailing Shuttle, I've never received a reply.

Sometimes rigs just go bonk. I don't know how else to explain it, especially extremely intermittent problems like this. Just have to remember, these little boxes are more complicated than a WW2 aircraft carrier. I mean the whole dang ship and you can throw in the planes too. Not the crew, people still have machines beat for complexity, but not for long.

Hopefully your problem will not repeat and it will just be an annomoly. Keep your fingers crossed or whatever it is you do for luck.

This is obviously something that went wrong from usage and/or time. So that does limit the possible causes. Typically, chips don't fail over time, at least not that quickly, unless there is an unusual stress, like very high heat or high voltages. As you don't mention that and you haven't been OCing, that probably eliminates a lot of the usual suspects. The one component that does fail with just normal use is the PSU.

    1. Try resetting/clearing the CMOS.
    2. Check and recheck all your connections. Especially CPU and RAM.
    3. If you can, try a different PSU. Or get some multimeter readings off it. I don't know what you can compare them to right off, but maybe somewhere there is a spec for that PSU.

There are a number of troubleshooting sites on the web.

Oh, by the way, Shuttles don't have a built in speaker so they don't beep.

Keep posting, you never know, maybe something will turn up that will help.

ahh thats why no beeps cheers for your reply!

tried resetting the cmos and checking ram/all connections with no avail. was going to strip it down and build it back up but then found several threads on the web like this

    http://forums.sudhian.com/messagevie...&enterthread=y

all with the same issue and no one finding a resolution. going to return the shuttle and components back to the store and let them sort it now i think :/
