Need some help with this hardware
I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this thread so please bear with me.
My friends son has just bought a USB Killer U Disk on ebay.
He is 13 years old.
I don't really understand what this device is or its purpose. However it doesn't sound very safe. Is anyone here able to advise?
Thanks

If a USB killer device is plugged into any device when charged it's aim is to kill the port, in essence rendering things like smartphones unusable, i think some phones have pretty good surge protection these days. However it will definately kill a standard usb port

I sugest you have a long talk with him - and dig a little deeper into what else he's up to that you don't know about
Why on earth would he want to deliberately kill a USB port on anything?
Re: Need some help with this hardware
My friend will be having a long talk with his son tonight, that much is assured.
Do these devices just kill the USB port or would it fry the motherboard of, say the laptop or other device? It seems that the device can deliver 300v which is clearly not what these devices were supposed to handle.
Re: Need some help with this hardware
They've been known to kill laptops. In fact I'm fairly sure that was their primary purpose, when I first read about them.

wow what a scarey thought a 13yr old walking around with one of these, any update from your friend?
