    Guessing game

    Ok, here's a game for everyone

    My system spec is 2600+ OC'ed to 200x11 with vcore at 1.675v. 2 x 512MB Corsair XMS XL Pro. 6800GT at stock. Abit NF7-S v2.0 and an antec neopower modular PSU.

    It won't boot. I was having problems with it beforehand as it kept restarting at random (i mean totally arbitrary restarts) and wouldn't let me boot until i reset the CMOS values.

    So i decided to change the PSU (went from an enermax active PFC 460 Watt to the neopower). I just wanted to rule out a factor. I booted up and as soon as it powered up it powered down again. Obviously a PSU protect mode, so i checked all connections, all fine. Put the rocker switch back and forth for good measure and booted. No POST. Reset CMOS values. No POST. All fans come on, all lights are happy EXCEPT for the lights on the RAM (the pro has memory indicators). So no power getting to the RAM.

    So, i resat everything and tried both PSU's and tried every combination i could possible think of. Now, don't post back and say "have you tried without..." etc because i promise you, i have tried every possible combination with both PSU's.

    I'm thinking perhaps dead BIOS, the restarts indicated perhaps a faulty BIOS in the first place so perhaps the PSU change topped it off. Any other ideas? Fortunately i've got my laptop so it hasn't affected my work.

    Cheers

    I used to get exactly the same problem (more or less) with my Abit NF-7-S V2, all fans came on lights up etc but no bios beep or display. I know you say don't reply tried without, however if I took the Graphics card and tried to boot then it'd post and come to life, power off card back in and away, until it powered off and you'd have to repeat the process, maybe a similar problem, I RMA'd mine and they confirmed it was faulty

    had similar problems with a Epox motherboard,turned out it was bulging and leaking capacitors....... worth checking only other thing I can think of is to change the battery as you were having to keep resetting cmos (sounds like it was not being saved).

    good luck, Curly

    Caps were one of the first things i checked and i left the power supply on just in case the battery had been drained, that way it would have received more power

    Dodgy motherboard. Windows doesn't use the BIOS a great deal so the BIOS problems are probably a result of bad power circuitry for the memory... at a guess.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Also, it is not uncommon for a BIOS to get wacked when overclocking. Does sound like a faulty motherboard though. I think from what I've seen ABit is still having a problem. I think all of their motherboards should be called "Fatal1ty".

    Yup, i've been thinking BIOS all the time as it's not POSTing whatsoever and when i power up nothing is going to the RAM an the BIOS is what tells everything else "look over there, there's the RAM". Just need to test all the components now to make sure
