Black IceMat 2 and my sweaty hand

I have had this mouse mat for the past 2 months and I can honestly say it’s a load of rubbish. Every time I play CSS for longer than 30 minuets my hand starts to sweat, puddles appear on the mat and my mouse gets confused and wont…….. Erm……..”Mouse” properly. It’s hard to explain but if my mouse goes over a sweat patch the cross hair on screen sticks. I’m using a Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2. Batteries are fine and the signal strength is good but it’s still sticking. Is this a common problem with the mat? or have I got a dodgy one?. If it’s common with these mats, can it be fixed somehow? Any suggestions will be welcome.

    Thanx.

I have a similar issue and found that having a fan blowing across the desk is great for removing the warmth from the hand and stopping it from sweating.

If its getting bad, the old "deodorant" on the palm trick works fine but is not ideal as it will make your biscuits taste funny inbetween fragging and that cheeky ciggy inbetween rounds will taste worse than ever ( YES... I did try it once )

Another trick is to open a window and try and keep the ambient temperature down but there is a fine line between cool and COLD trigger finger which in the heat of battle is almost as worse as a case of "downstairs disturbance" ( in other words... when your boxer shorts rise up a "bit too far" )

Other than that, the only other method I can recommend is the tried and tested " Trevor and Simon " rubbing palms on the pants technique as developed by them but improved by gamers all over the world

    Or.. if your a modder then the holy grail is here ;

    Hope this helps

Thanks guys for your comments. TBH I’m terrible at any FPS when my hand gets colder than the rest of my body. Its like my hand becomes stiffer and I stutter the cross hair over the screen. WildmonkeyUK you mentioned deodorant, do you think this could work if sprayed on the surface of the mat or would it just evaporate away?

Not really as deodourant and in particuarly anti-perspirants work by blocking the sweat pores with aluminium oxide or 1 of its compounds ( see... I did pay attention in chemistry )

You could spray it on your hands, but that was a tongue in cheek comment that I'm sure more than 1 of us has tried in the past to stop the dreaded sweatty paws

Do you get this problem with other mats? I cant see how sweating is realated to the mat - but I can understand it would stop an optical mouse from working properly...

You could wear gloves? they will stop the mat getting wet.. not too comfortable though.. - I have to wear gloves all day at work.. crappy job with unhealthy metal powders

I have the original IceMat, and it's a dream with an MX1000 but for 2 things: it gets cold and it hurts where the bony protuberance of your wrist rests on the glass (at least for me it does.)

I think there is a solution that solves my problems and yours. Put a sweatband on your wrist, but wear it further up the hand than usual, to cover the part of your hand that touches the mat.

Alternatively, a glove - the padded fingerless ones like weightlifters or cyclists use.

I was at a lan awhile back and gamer was using a personal fan powered off a usb port. The thing was long and bendy so you could adjust it any way you wanted.

After a quick google it seems it's called the flyfan.

But don't you keep losing the mouse?

Thanks guys for your advice . The mat itself is never really that cold; it’s just at a nice cool temperature and as a result doesn’t take that long to warm up. That’s why I think the sweat isn’t evaporating. Looks like I’m going to have to live with it for the time being as I have not got the cash the buy a new mat or mouse.
