SATA II - Information

The term SATA II has grown in popularity as the moniker for the SATA 3Gb/s data transfer rate, causing great confusion with customers because, quite simply, it’s a misnomer.

3Gb/s = SATA II where SATA II != 3Gb/s then. Am I correct?

It is a bit too early to talk about SATA II since:
3Gb/s drive = No (Except 7K80 but it is a bit too small)
3GB/s SATA controller = Yes (NF4)
Port Multiplier = No
SATA controller which support Port Multiplier = No

Any idea when will be Port Multipliers and T7K250 become avaliable? (I heard rumors about T7K250 already avaliable in Taiwan in small quantity.)

It doesn't matter what it means until they improve drive mechanics, unless you use at least 4 drives in a striped RAID 0 array.

It wouldnt matter than either, as each one will have its own channel. No current single device is going to fill up the 3Gb/s bandwidth. We dont even really come close to the standards of 1.5Gb/s.
3Gb/s is yet another marketing tool. Nothing more.
