Help! Usb Memory Stick - Drive Configuration
Hello,
I am trying to use a plug and play USB memory drive on Windows XP. It installs itself and shows in device manager but DOES NOT show up as a drive in my computer OR IN DISK MANAGEMENT under storage. The computer does not recognise it as extra storage so i cannot assign it to a new drive and format it. I have had this problem once before but have unforutnately forgotten the solution. Hence, i hesistate to say that the device is faulty because i eventually got my last usb memory drive to work. I think the solution involved something liek deleting/uninstalling the usb hubs in device manager and rebooting....basically, something which enabled the computer to recognise the usb device as extra storage. It does not work in other computers either. Once my last USB plugin was configured however, it worked on any computer. I have not had any other problems with usb plug-in devises.
Please help!!
Re: Help! Usb Memory Stick - Drive Configuration
Hi John,
I know your post was a while ago, but did you resolve the issue & can you remember how ?
I have a similar problem in that I have a 128 Mb usb memory stick that works on other PCs but now only shows on my work PC as a 3.5 inch floppy drive with 1.44 Mb capacity.
The problem started a few days ago when I had complained about the office being too hot & I was given a usb fan as a gift. I plugged that in and the next time I needed my usb memory stick the configuration was completely incorrect.
Any ideas ?
Cheers,
Paul M.

You may have accidently disabled some usb devices in the bios. Make sure that the maximum number of usb devices has enabled in the bios.
