Question Just built my new 64 rig!

(Cheers for the help in previous thread btw guys - your comments were realy useful)

My AMD 64 3200+ and Neo Plat 2 turned up yesterday after about 4 hours of building and rebooting, pulling bits in and out to try and get it to start it finaly booted!

Only question left now is how do I overclock it? I know this is prob somewhere on the forum, but this is first time I have built from scratch and I have never o'clocked a processor!

Will my GFX card (9800) be effected by the overclock? Should I overclock GFX AFTER oc'ing processor or does it make no differance?

Also, should I use the software that comes with the neo (cool and quite) to oc or do it from the bios - does it matter?

    All I know is that you increase the FSB? - it's currently 200 X 10 = 2000

    Cheers in advance!

Your mobo has AGP/PCI locks so properly setup it shouldn't affect your VGA card.

I would suggest overclock mobo first & then VGA but ymmv.
& it is a bit more complicated on AMD64 than just fsb ...

Its took you 4 hours to get it to boot and you want to risk overclocking it straight away!??!? Id run it as it is for a month or so first, its hardly a slow CPU.

    Wink

Cheers for the links guys, it's all pretty much in double-dutch to me! I expect I'll get my head around it though...

Core centre is a bit naff and crashes when I auto overclock it...Is there a program that will overclock from windows???

if you want to Overclock then disable Cool & Quiet.

    drop the HTT to 4x.

also what ram are you using?

I'm using 2 x 512mb sticks of PC2700 - yeah I know, not great, but I won't be getting any new for a while so I will have to make do.
    HTT?

    HTT = Hyper Transport Technology

you need to keep this as near to 1000mhz as possible, so HTT 5x, fsb 200 = 1000.
if you drop the HTT to 4x you will have more room to up the fsb.

it should be in Advance chipset or or maybe power bios settings (don't know your board, yet, got 1 coming for my 3200 clawhammer )

don't run your ram 1:1 with the cpu, you will need to run a divider to overclock.

i am using PC3200 but have it set in bios to 166 as this way i have my cpu at 240fsb but my ram is running at 200. You may want to set your ram to 133 in bios and then it will give you room to up your cpu's fsb without overclocking your ram.

    i hope this sounds clear

i got 2.7GHz (on a normally 2.2GHz 3500+ winchester with arctic cooling HSF) to boot to XP (crashed in games tho) just by upping the FSB a bit. CnC was still enabled. Using PC4000 RAM as well.

Suspect i could get it stable for games as well using the tips in that thread, nice one thanks for that!
