Whats the best HDD you ever owned?

What Hard Disk Drive have you been most happy with....ever. It doesnt needto be up to date...if you had a PC 5 years ago with a HDD that simply went on for ever and ever and was a bargain...say so.

OR if you have a brand newone and you are so shocked by how good it is incomparson to other stuff you've owned ..say so

And if you work with PC's all day, building and/or maintaining them, whats the one you like most (prolly cs it never gives you arse ache ....

Mine is a SCSI Seagate Cheetah 10k Awesome thing

9GB Seagate Cheetah 10krpm. 4Mb of cache which walked all over any other drives I had at the time.

Windows XP installs were so fast - it made IDE weep.

Kinda sad to have gotten rid of it, but it was a tad small and I fancied a dabble in RAID 5.

I knew ...just KNEW Cheetah's would get more people than me excited. Something special about them.

Mines only 18gb....its got XP on it now. My other 2 Atlas's 18gig's are for games and music/data...but the Cheetah destroys them. its SO FAST

My Ultra 320 15K Cheetah's are the best I've had. One died after my rig sprang a leak (user error). It was rm'd & returned within 7 days & it's very very fast & quiet.

Can i second the samsung spinpoint - superb drives. As are seagate. I'll never buy other brands for my hard drives again.

Rom drives > samsung (great seek time and v quiet)
Hdd > samsung / seagate (reliable and quiet)

All of my Seagates - before them, I used cheapo hard drives (before I really got into computers) and they had a tendency to break. Since then, I've had three Seagates, all of which I'm still using.

Samsung 20g spinpoint. Had it 5 years now and use it to back up precious music collection.

Bit noisy by modern standards but reliable.

Well looking at my rig anyone would think I like the Maxtor DiamondMAX drives as I have four in my main rig, although they are great and they never seem to give out they are a little noisy in the humming department.

I have two 120Gb Spinpoints in there as well and there great, so quiet and the main one gets a respectible 1500 HDD Marks on PCMark

I still love my 40gb Maxtor, I've had it for a few years now, and it's still running great, never had any problems with it.

They are nothing fancy but I like my two old IDE Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9s, might not be the fastest but they are nice and quiet and reliable.

Not really a fan of my current SATA Seagate though, its noisy as hell. (Must be faulty but I never got a reply from Seagate's tech support email...)
